"Cookie cutter masturbation" sounds like it would be painful.

Sorry Bob...

I thought this was a load of ass. ASS. First off let me say that I'm in no way a Star Trek watcher or fan. The whole series basically just flew right past me. I was the kid who just watched Star Wars over and over and over again. With that said this may be a movie that I would have enjoyed better if I HAD been a Star Trek fan but Bob wasn't so I'm going to go ahead and say that this film failed. There were however two redeeming factors...

Two great action scenes
Benedict Cumberbatch

That's all. The script was so weak. I didn't give a sh*t about anything that was happening and they really didn't try to get me to care. The "war" that could have been implemented didn't scare me at one bit. The "crew" being fought over held no emotional connection as to what happened to them. Oh, and that last scene was total garbage.

I really liked the first one so I was disappointed that this failed miserably. Could have been great but just ended up being cookie cutter Star Trek masturbation.

2/5
Have you seen the actual Star Wars films (pre Lucas rape?). Just curious, that's irrelevant to your review.

Unlike you, I grew up on The Wrath of Khan so I'm giving Bob the benefit of doubt on this one. Not so much that I'll see it in a theater though.

Yeah, but the original ones that Lucas has tried to stop everyone from seeing. Not the new versions of those.

I hated Into Darkness after loving the reboot (only familiar with TNG series films otherwise).

You're probably old enough to have seen true versions of the original theatrical releases of the 3, but maybe not. They have been tinkered with extensively and it is now difficult to see the original versions, without any digital remastering, including changes made in 1997 and really big changes in 2004. I'm not a purist but the original theatrical releases are difficult to come by and have been for a long time.

Lucas has actively blocked any releases of the real originals, saying that they are not what he intended. Star Wars fans are pissed. You should watch:

It involves the mass hatred of episodes 1-3 but also addresses the way that Lucas "ruined" episodes 4-6.

A local cinema had 25 hours of back to back films, with three different theatres showing simultaneously, this weekend for a 40th anniversary celebration. All the films they were screening were £1 admission. A wonderful idea I wish I had taken better advantage of, as I only went to one showing.

However, when the one showing is as wonderful and as hilarious a film as this, it still works. I loved seeing this in the cinema for the first time.

Absolutely amazing film. So many quotable lines coupled with a genuinely touching film.

Yes it's a cut price Shaun of the Dead but who cares when you can see English icons like Richard Briers trying to escape Zombies on his zimmer frame and outpacing them or Honor Blackman swearing like a trooper and gunning down zombies or the one and only Alan Ford berating all around him?
