ffs, that's bloody cruel.
My best friend is russian, and i've discussed a lot with him about this subject.
But these are people who exploit their position of power, and I think that happens all the time, every day, when there is war...I don't know better, because I'd never go to war, as I am a pacifist, so I'll never learn it, but I think this is kind of a "common" situation, when there is war...

thank you @batlord.

I am really sorry, you guys. I didn't want to justify anything.
I'm just ultra objective, and I can't believe, that there are people in the world, that are 100% evil. I love all the people around me, and I don't want to claim that anyone is evil. That's why I think about this in that way. If that means, that I have to say that a maniac like Hitler was actually also a human being, well...then I can't object to that.

I'm the same way. Not that he should get any credit for it, but it's occurred to me just how ironic it is that the Holocaust has probably done more to end anti-Semitism than anything else in history. And who knows how much longer it might have taken for the Civil Rights movement in America to have gained any traction if not for the backlash against racism after the war.

It's easy to look at the situation in terms of black and white, good vs evil terms, but I see it more as a desirable outcome vs undesirable outcome. Nothing, no matter how bad, has effects that are completely undesirable any more than anything that is considered ultimately good has entirely desirable repercussions. Obviously I can't say that I'm glad the Holocaust happened, but it's at least interesting, if not even a bit enlightening, to look at different perspectives, if only for the sake of a mental exercise.

I don't think it helps to develop such a hardline attitude to just thinking about anything like that in a different light than the most obvious, angriest one. It's one dimensional and inhibits free thought.

Thank you for getting my point.
I just love to think about anything that ever happened in my life, or about anything I've learned in history class, or through conversation, just to always come to the conclusion, that black & white do simply not exist. Even physics tells us, that the colour white is an illusion, as is the colour black, as they are just the combination of colours, or the lack of colours. I never meant to justify - I meant to think, to scrutinize and to look objectively at the situation, without any judgement or subjection distracting my mind. Everything in this world happens for a reason, and I'm always trying to deduct the backcloth of events. There's a century old German song, which is called "Die Gedanken sind frei" (mind is free), and that's what it is.

i'm not even gonna touch this conversation.....

and i had no intention of posting the last film i saw....except it is just purrrfect

Inglorious Basterds

i actually watch this one quite often....but having just finished my book on Operation Paperclip....and since i was hanging out with my 16 year old nephew...who had not seen this....i was in the mood to watch some nazi's get their heads beat in with a baseball bat

i will say this....this film really holds up for entertainment value....that opening scene is still....in my opinion....Tarantino's finest moment...and one i don't think he will ever beat.....every second....from the girls seeing the cars coming up the road....to the girl being shot at as she is running is proof that Tarantino is truly a master eye with the camera

my nephew at the end looked at me and asked how much of it was true....my answer was "well the Nazi's did occupy France and G W Pabst was a great director"

I saw this today and the first thing that bothered me is the title. No blue isn't a warm color it's a cool color but whatever artistic liberty and all that jazz.

The author of the source material doesn't even approve of the sex scenes. They seemed high ridiculous to me as well. It didn't really match with a couple that was truly in love. It wasn't passionate/tender but more like let's fuck like we are in a porno. Other than that I have no problems with the movie.

Half way through the movie I went to wikipedia to read the plot line to figure out parts that I missed. I didn't mind it for what it was but it was definitely a bit disappointing. I wouldn't give as low of a score as you did but the Cameron Diaz scene was worth the time I spent on the movie along with a hitman that comes along later. Won't spoil it for people that still want to see it.
