What's The Latest Film You Have Seen?

I own Heat on Blu-Ray. Great movie. Love the diner scene with DeNiro and Pacino. Also love the fact they shot it live using two cameras instead of doing it the hack way they usually shoot those types of scenes - one guy recites all of his lines, then the other guy does all his, and then they cut and paste them together.

Mann wanted to catch the vibe of them talking in real time.

Watched this last night on Netflix. I'm a huge Ebert fan and it's terrible what the guy went through his last few years. To see how positive and funny he remained right up till the end was pretty amazing. Also really insightful seeing the complete story of the very unique relationship he and Siskel had. Total love / hate.

Anyway, this is really, really well made and doesn't pull any punches at all.

Faust. It was really interesting to see a movie from the 20s that actually had a genuinely creepy atmosphere and some effects.

I agree, Faust is pretty great. I love the magic carpet ride for example.

I love Faust, it's probably my favourite silent film and one of my overall favorites. The cinematography is way ahead of its time.

Yep.

Faust was one of the better finds I have watched in a long time, certainly the oldest movie I've legitimately enjoyed. It's hard to get over how amazing of a job they did with so little to work with. Really made me hate Uwe Boll that much more. All of the technology that exists and the tens of millions of dollars he gets for budgets and he makes BloodRayne? Seriously? It's not like he can't get good actors into his projects, he has done stuff with like Ron Perlman and Billy Zane, they're good actors... they just make bad decisions.

And in the spirit of Billy Zane being a good actor who will take any role that pays, I have watched Invincible. Might be a little tricky to find but if you're into cheese it's a great one. Probably the greatest club scene in film history.

You'll probably love the Cabinet of Dr. Caligary if you're a fan of Faust. Metropolis is a really good silent flick too, as are all of Fritz Lang's movies (even his 'talkies').

Watched a free internet documentary on the NOLA sludge scene. Was epic. Never realized just how influential that scene was. And I think Pepper Keenan (Corrosion of Conformity/Down) might be one of the coolest mother****ers on Earth. He's like the world's coolest redneck. Dude has his own bar. A ****ing bar! Wish he was my ****ing dad, dude. So much more awesome than my bumass "father".

The Yesterday Machine (1963)

A sultry baton twirling cheerleader with a southern accent, a mysterious old abandoned house, a time machine, WWll Nazis, a mad scientist, two American Civil War soldiers, an ancient Egyptian female slave, a reporter with a nose for a good story. All the ingredients for a good b-movie. What could possibly go wrong? Unfortunately, as far as this film goes, the answer is just about everything!

The best part of this movie was the electronic sounds of the time machine while it was powering up. It almost sounded like some type of 60's electronic music. Other than that, It was one wasted opportunity after another. File this one under "opportunity squandered."

Four Lions

Watched this in my Islam class today, I had forgotten how hilarious it is. First time i watched it I was pretty hammered so a lot of it went over my head.
