Watchmen was fantastic. Too many people whining about a lack of tentacle monster.

Saw 10 Cloverfield Lane tonight. Absolutely loved it. If you're on the fence, go see it. If you didn't like the first one...still go see it because it's nothing like the first one

Cool. Can't wait for this one.

Watchmen was great. Tentacle monster would have been too much for those who had never read the book. Putting it on Dr. Manhattan made for a much more cohesive story.

Just finished watching both of Alex Winter's documentary films. Best known for his role as Bill S. Preston, Esq. in the Bill & Ted movies, I had no idea how profound, engaging, and fascinating his work was as a director.

DOWNLOADED (2013) is a magnificent personal account of the birth of Napster from its creators and of the revolutionary impact it had on the distribution of media. And DEEP WEB (2015) exposes and examines the massive corruption behind the prosecution of The Dread Pirate Roberts after the shutdown of The Silk Road. Deep Web was suspenseful right up until the final words splashed across the screen - words which infuriate the audience at the revelation of the injustice surrounding the trial and at the potential cost to civil liberties thereafter.

Both films became instant favorites.

Yeah, I understand why authorities would be alarmed by the Silk Road, with all the drugs and whatnot sold on there, but it's all still a part of the slow repression of internet "rights" that's going to ruin it if allowed to go unchecked.

What'd you think of the ending? For me it was a near perfect movie
Spoiler for :
until the last twenty or so minutes when she escapes.

Absolutely.

For the curious and for those who won't have the opportunity to see the film - here are five key take-aways to piss you off:

• The FBI denied DPR's rights to know who would be testifying against him in his day in court. They also presented him with 3,500 pages of evidence only a few weeks before the trial - evidence that clearly revealed the FBI's violation of his fourth amendments rights and that their claim that they found the Silk Road's servers through a security hole in a CAPTCHA was a blatant lie.

• In reality, they had illegally hacked into and seized all of DPR's personal data from his computer without a warrant, setting a precedent that destroyed the fourth amendment rights of any defendant thereafter.

• At the trial, his defense's request to submit and examine this evidence was denied, as was his request to cross examine the FBI agents and their claims. Effectively, the court denied DPR from even STATING that any wrongdoing was done by the feds.

• In the months before the trial, a criminal complaint was filed against the FBI agents who'd posed as Silk Road sellers. Among other charges, these agents stole over a million dollars in Bitcoin and transferred the funds to their personal accounts. The government did not allow DPR's defense to address this criminal investigation during the trial.

• DPR was sentenced to life in prison.

I liked how it changed completely and didn't apologize for it. Like BAM out of nowhere there's a ginormous alien ship, it was like a whole new movie for the last half hour and it was still thrilling

i watched two films last night and loved one while hating the other

Loved...

The Lobster

written and directed by the amazing Yorgos Lanthimos (Dogtooth)...

this follows a man named David who leaves The City and goes to The Hotel where he has 40 days to find a mate and fall in love with her or he will be turned into a lobster and released into the woods. This is the first 10 minutes and what unravels throughout the film is amazingly witty.....

this film works on so many levels....it's an amazing laugh out loud dark comedy....it's a surrealistic view into society and it's "rules" of what love is.....it's a dark and despondent drama....it's a social commentary on the concept of relationships as well as being alone

above all it's a fun little weird film that is ion no way pretentious....just strange.

you all should see this....it would bring up some great conversation.....Exo, WWWP, Roxy i'm looking right at you.

HATE!

Martyrs (2015)

the original French Martyrs is in my opinion the greatest horror film of the new century...i know that's saying a lot for a film that does not exactly warrant viewers to jump up and re-watch it

simply put...

it is an amazing story with several genre twists, the violence is shocking, there is gore but not just for gores sake, it is well shot and the main players are wonderful in it (specifically the young woman who plays Lucie), and it ends on a bleak note with a very ambiguous ending

in my opinion this horror film in a nutshell outlines perfectly the rudimentary concepts of existential nihilism and should be seen by everyone at least once

so obviously i had to watch the watered down american remake....just because i need more things in my life to hate

they stick to the basic premise but everything that i loved about the original is gone....i kept asking myself if i would actually like this had i not seen the original....and in all honesty the answer is no

the acting is sub par, the entire film feels rushed in every way, everything i described about the underlying subtext of the original is simply thrown out, the entire film feels low budget in a bad way and the plot changes from the original are as unnecessary as they are simply stupid

avoid this and re-watch the original
