"The Big Short"

Easily the best film I've seen in months. Absolute perfection. I laughed my ass off the whole time. This is truly the ONLY time I can honestly say that I was not absolutely embarassed by Steve Carell's role, but actually developed a sort of respect for this guy's quirky sense of humor and ability to act... Never thought I'd utter, type, think, or dream those words.

Batman vs. Superman

Wasn't as bad as I was expecting it to be based on all of the negative review buzz. I did enjoy it more than Man of Steel. I think Gal Gadot has a long way to go before she'll be able to hold up an entire Wonder Woman movie on her own, but that being said this movie didn't really give her much to work with. I didn't feel like Ben Affleck really stood out among the previous Batmans, just another actor on the list. Jesse Eisenberg's Lex Luthor felt very forced. I think Amy Adams did the best she could with her character. In general the movie felt extremely bloated, even at 2 and a half hours it felt like so much was hamfisted in and rushed for the sake of teasing at a dozen more upcoming sequels and prequels.

Krampus

Started off great but lost me shortly after Krampus entered the picture. Some fantastic costumes, though.

Deliverance [1972]

Loved every minute of it.

Yesterday i saw 2 docs on YT that were pretty interesting. one was called i am a comic and it's about the inner workings of stand up comedy. it had a bunch of guest like Sarah Silverman, Andy Kindler, Louis Ck, Greg giraldo and a bunch of other funny ppl.

The second doc i saw is called American Superhero Documentary. (This one)

This one i really liked, Stan Lee is awesome on this doc and i learned quite a bit about the history of comics.

Watched 3 excellent films recently, all of which have been on my watchlist for far too long.

My second Michael Haneke film, and I was blown away yet again. At it's core it's a character study that in some ways reminded me of a film like A Serious Man because of just how dark and depressing it got.

Ed Wood

I'm a big Tim Burton fan, so I've been excited to watch this one for awhile. Based on the life of Ed Wood, the notorious cult B movie director who has gone down as one of the worst directors of al time, the film is a blend of comedy and drama that benefits a ton from Burton's directing style. Johnny Depp was fantastic in the lead, and Martin Landau was even better at Bella Lugosi.

The Seventh Seal

What an exceptional piece of film making. The protagonist Atonious Block is a knight who is met by Death and in order to prolong his life for as long as possible, challenges him to a game of chess. A lot of discussion on both death and religion, and the film looks just as beautiful as the dialogue sounds. Easily one of the best foreign films I've ever seen.

All great films indeed. What was your fist Haneke film? While it's sort of a change up for him, The White Ribbon is my favourite of his. Also, if you're just getting into Bergman, Hour of the Wolf (his best and easily in my top five films), Persona, and Wild Strawberries are required viewing. I've never met an Ingmar Bergman film I haven't loved yet, so if you can find any of his other works they're well worth the watch.

Funny Games was my first, although I did watch about 40 minutes of The White Ribbon after, but I just couldn't get into it. I think The Piano Teacher will be the next of his films I check out, I've heard great things about it.

I'll definitely check out those 3 Bergman films, a friend of mine owns the Persona Criterion so I'll probably be borrowing that from him as well.

I watched the first two Devilman OVAs the other day, and I'm just going to pretend that counts as movie. They're kind of like if somebody took the Spawn animated series, an H.P. Lovecraft story, the first Heavy Metal movie, and a generic 80s mecha anime, then mashed them into 100 minutes of weird, violent fun.
