What's The Latest Film You Have Seen?

i literally woke up this morning and said to myself....alright i have to run 8 miles today and go see La La Land again

Rogue One

Hated it to be perfectly honest. Both rebel leads had ZERO chemistry between each other and the whole story felt rushed. The dialogue was forced. You could predict when a pivotal plot change was going to occur and in five minutes it was like it never happened. The robot delivered these lines like they were supposed to be funny but they fell so damn hard and deadpan. The audience was full and I rarely heard anybody laugh. The CGI for "certain" characters was very distracting. We spent so little time with each character that emotional arcs that were supposed to hit you in the feely places just came off empty. I didn't care when a character died because I really had no idea who that character was. Not because I'm not a Star Wars nerd, but because they were just like "OK HERE IS THIS GUY. NOW HE'S DEAD."

Two saving graces were the Asian actors, especially the kickass Donnie Yen who killed it in this, and THAT scene towards the very end with a very familiar dark helmeted person just destroying ****. That was honestly one of the best action sequences, albeit short, I've seen in a long time.

I'd like to discuss this further but I just really thought it was awful for 90% of the film.

The run time was already long, you wanted a full exposition on each character?

The only thing I agree with you on was the female lead not being as great acting wise but I think it's more noticeable because of the caliber of the actors she was surrounded by.

Full? No. I certainly wanted a bit more than two or three seconds to establish who this was. It's okay for a film to have a sh*t load of characters but it sways into bad territory for me when you attach a (supposed) very emotional point in the film to a character whom they ave about four minutes of screen time to.

i will admit for as much as i loved it....which honestly has more to do with just loving to see a Star Wars film in the theater again....it is flawed

i'm positive i'll see it at least one more time

I wore my original trilogy VHS box set out as a kid. I hated the prequels and thought The Force Awakens was fun. This just didn't click with me. Maybe another viewing will help as I was starting to ease off the hate pedal as I thought about it more but I still can't convince myself to like it based on the fact that it's Star Wars. I wanted to like it so bad but I just couldn't get over the obvious directing and writing flaws.

I'm seeing Manchester By the Sea first cause my friend would rather see that. He lost a family member recently so I'm letting him decide. La La Land is the next film I see with my married couple friends.

i really should go see Manchester by the Sea today....but i've done nothing but listen to the La La Land soundtrack and just have to see it again

the next big film for me is Hidden Figures

Yeah, that is a flaw and I get that but I don't think they really needed to spend time establishing characters. It spoke to the urgency of what was going on. There really wasn't any time to dig deep into that. They spent a huge amount of time setting up the main lead and that's all that's really needed because of her connection the overall scheme of things.
