Uncle John

An unassuming killer's nephew visits him as he deals with the aftermath of one of his murders in a small Wisconsin town. It's divided into two parts: the nephew's storyline and the uncle's. The nephew's side borders on rom com while the uncle lives through a gritty thriller. Imo they take way too long to connect and that really dragged down the film for me. They're just so jarringly different and apart from some easy to miss references, can seem kind of unrelated entirely up until they intersect. This could have been solved through some flashback or something. When they do connect it's really solid and I loved the payoff and character development. Very well made film with some flaws but also a lot of really strong features like the camerawork, the acting, the soundtrack, and the tension building. A firm 4.5/5

Memento. First time in at least a decade.

Saw it first in the theater "backwards". Then bought the DVD and figured out how to watch in chronological order.

Was cool to watch it again the proper way.

The Nolan brothers are as good as it gets.

yo batboy you need to watch Girl House. saw it last night and it was pretty tremendous for a modern slasher film.

hot girls doing porn, sociopath serial killer, awkward male love interest. ticks every box.

I finally finished the last of this one, which I had started weeks ago:

I'm not quite sure whether I liked it or not yet. I will happily sit through any slow-burning psychological thriller, and I do like anything having to do with cults and creepy dinner parties, but I definitely didn't love it. Fairly predictable.

You should really check out Convergence. Similarly slow burning, but much more fascinating and well-executed.
