This is probably a correct statement, but for the same reason that Only God Forgives is a cult masterpiece.

Reminds me that I need to watch that. I was intrigued from the trailer.

Minority Report. Such a mind blowing movie on every level. Considering it's now 15 years old the SFX still 100% hold up completely.

^ Love that movie.

Every five years or so it's a real treat.

I wish there was more good sci-fi out there, that predicts stuff on earth rather than utilize spaceships / tropes / etc.

Philip K. Dick story, that's why. A ton of great sf movies are based on his stories and novels. Not all of them were faithful adaptations (I'm looking at you, Total Recall, both the original and the remake) but all of them are at least interesting.

Just finished watching Midnight Express. I don't know how famous it is and how many in here have seen it. Basically: A young American man travels to Turkey in the 70's. Get's caught in the airport with several kilos of hash. Spends many years in prison hell hole.

Sort of cheesy soundtrack and the acting gets a bit melodramatic, but overall a very good movie. There's a few things that aren't exactly believeable about it, so definitely "based on true events" rather than an accurate representation of what really happened.

I remember liking that movie in high school, but I don't remember much about it other than the concept and the dude being hung upside down and a Turkish guard beating on the soles of his feet with a club or something.
