Borderland (Unrated Director's Cut)

Loosely based on the true story of this guy:

Brutal, brutal movie. Makes Hostel seem like Mary Poppins. If you dig torture porn, you owe it to yourself to check this out. I'd imagine the theatrical release had to be watered down so be sure to get the director's cut.

What's with the vocalist? He sounds like Rene Dif from Aqua; something which should be forbidden by law. The orchestra sounds sort of cheesy too, like some kind of old RPG soundtrack from when games just started having CD music. Basic rule that seems to always hold true for me = anything electronic/techno like from before 1990 will make me cringe involuntarily. I mean not like Depeche Mode, but stuff with this Euro Techno kind of vibe. I don't even know the genre labels.

They're intentionally cheesy, subtly subversive, and self-aware and always have been . I suspect that the repressive, communist political situation in Slovenia (their country of origin) in the 80s caused their more subtle, tongue-in-cheek approach to political commentary. That song's lyrics mean nothing, being a cover of what I also assume was an unintentionally, humorously meaningless reggae song that illustrates the stupidity of their country's then-current ideology, along with the over-the-top Nazi-ish sounding music. I might be totally wrong but that's what I get from "Opus Dei/Life Is Life".

I was definitely thinking Nazi too - both the music and the guys running around in the video. Opus Dei is a pretty pretentious title, especially considering the actual song, so I can buy that it is meant in a tongue in cheek manner.
