I posted an itallian poster just because this movie has about one million different posters, and this one was the coolest.


Saw this one last night. Surprisingly fun to watch, albeit a bit silly. Some special effects are good for the time, some look really terrible. I'm sure it must have blown people's minds back then. Both Roger Ebert and George Lucas agree that it's an adventure movie classic. I'm not really disagreeing. I could easily imagine wanting to watch this again several times over the years. A fun thing about watching this is noticing things that Disney's Aladdin movie has taken inspiration from. For example, the villain is named Jafar, and the boy/dog (he's transformed by magic at some point) that follows our hero is named Abu, which is of course rather close to Apu... The princess has a father that acts a lot like the father of Jasmin in Aladdin. And so on...

I also quite liked June Duprez as the princess. She's so pretty!

Ha, I almost included both Requiem and Blue Valentine in my list.

Hyped for Three Billboards. I loved Olive Kitteridge a few years back, another great McDormand performance.

My boss is a massive film guy. Every year since I've known him (20+) he compiles a top 10 of the year list. Just yesterday he told me Billboards is a shoe in for his 2017 list.

I dare hope it's going to be well worth watching. Like Eric, I also think Frances McDormand is a great actress, so that helps too.

Battle of the Sexes and A Taxi Driver are probably my other two most important personal must-see movies of 2017. As in movies that I must make sure to see.

BOTS was a letdown for me. YMMV. The real life BJK and BR are still too real for me. It was awkward watching such familiar actors trying to ape them. Wish they would have cast unknowns for the roles instead.

As a side note, track down this. So cool watching these one time rivals, and now very close friends, reliving all of the memories.

There's a theatre near my house that sells tickets for $2.00 on Thursdays, so my plan is to pick a movie out of a hat and go see it each Thursday. I missed out last night, though.

I do watch tennis occasionally, but it's still a fairly new thing for me, and I'm mostly familiar with more recent players, so at least that wont be factor. I just like the premise of the movie, I like Emma Stone and I like "talky" movies, so I'm hoping it will float my boat a bit better.

I saw BOTS about a month and a half back, it made it to the second-run theater very quickly so I saw it for $3, and I was surprised by how good it was. It wasn't a top movie for the year or anything, but it was interesting and the acting was very good and it was an event that I knew of, but not very well so I ended up learning a thing or two if not from the movie, when I checked a lot of it on Wikipedia after.

Most recent movie I saw in theater: The Mountain Between Us. It wasn't very good, but it was entertaining and it definitely wasn't bad. I thought they made the end sequence after they escaped from the wilderness a bit too long, and it sort of felt out of place after they'd spent the majority of the run time on a snowy, cold mountain.

Most recent movie I've watched overall: "Jim & Andy", it's a documentary of Jim Carrey's performance of Andy Kaufman, as well as some background into both of their own lives. It's very good. Maybe the best documentary I've watched since I saw Frank Zappa's "Eat That Question" about a year and a half ago.
