The Last Jedi.

There was a span of about 40 minutes that was pretty good, tight & kept you fixated.

Overall, it was ok.

45 Years

An absolute tour de force of acting, pacing, and inward-looking cinematography (meaning that it matches the character's emotions beautifully). The plot unfolded in a slow burning way and ended on a note that initially left me wanting more. However, after thinking on it for a bit, I realize that it's actually an incredibly realistic approach to the tale of a relationship dying at an old age and the disillusionment that comes with that. Recommended to those who enjoy films propelled by stellar performances. 8/10

Since I've had a bit of time this weekend (keep in mind I don't watch a lot of TV or movies):

Wonder Woman - Fairly decent for a super hero movie. Gal Gadot... nffff. 7/10

Lego Batman Movie - Fast paced and a little hard to watch with the stop-motion (maybe I was just light headed from fever *shrug*). Snappy quips a plenty and a bit predictable. 6/10

Hidden Figures - For a feel good movie based on true events, it was really well done. The constant references to Redstone made it a little special for me too, since I did my AIT there, and I'm sure the main characters stories are much worse than they made them out to be, but bravo for shedding some light on those incredible minds. 9/10

Watched X-Men: Days of Future Past and X-Men: Apocalypse again today. I'm surprised at how weak I found both of them to be. Poorly choreographed and cut action, not much of an eye for cinema in general, actually. These movies have no visual flair whatsoever. First Class was the same deal.

On top of that, no characters feel all that interesting and the plots are just kind of muddled and sketchy. These movies don't even really work as just simple action movies. Much less as stories with characters and themes worth investing any feelings or thoughts in.

Most surprising to me was how ugly everything looks in Days of Future Past. It's such a bland and garish movie. It somehow manages to have both dulled, unexciting colors and a bad habit of showing non-complimentary colors side by side constantly. It looks revolting. Apocalypse fares better in comparison, but none of these X-Men movies can be accused of having a sense of visual style.

Only decent X-Men movie ever made: The first one from 2000.

One of the only decent super hero movies, really, but that's an entirely different can of worms.

I wouldn't expect an X-Men or any superhero film to try to be anything but a box of blockbuster filmmaking cliches, even the earlier ones. I thought that Logan was easily the best film in the X-Men cannon, even if it did have a lifeless and canned soundtrack.

At least we get Michael Fassbender as Magneto. And while I do like First Class, yeah the original is the only one that doesn't make me cringe when I watch it. Days of Future Past might have been decent but I can't even remember much besides Magneto being awesome.

What surprised me was how I didn't even feel that they passed for just farily well made entertainment. Take something like that silly old movie, Romancing the Stone. It's simple blockbuster entertainment, but it's a fairly handsome film with some spirited acting and a sense of fun. These X-Men movies just feel draining and charmless.

I'd like the see Logan eventually. At least it looks like something a bit different from the rest of the series.

It's definitely the best thing Fox has done with any of their franchises. Not that that's saying much, but it's definitely highly worth watching.
