A total trip of a movie. In an awesome way!
I have only seen ½ the movie. The camera movements made me so motion sick that I had to leave the room and wait in the cinema front lobby for my brother to finish the movie. I must have been really, really sick, because at least a couple people asked me if I was allright, even though I tried to just sit and look relaxed

I have! Thank you - I'd forgotten about that one. Definitely along the lines of what I'm after.

I am! Looking forward to seeing it.

Sounds great! I'll add it to the list!

A philosopher friend also recommended the following:
  • A box set of Beckett plays including two different "Acts Without Words" and a fantastic performance by John Hurt in "Krapp's Last Tape."
  • Wings of Desire
  • John Frankenheimer's Seconds (with Rock Hudson)
  • The Truman Show as a modern day version of Plato's allegory of the cave
  • Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter
  • And Wit with Emma Thompson

Thank you everyone for your suggestions!

Awesome, thought that it would be particularly up your alley. You should move Waking Life to the top of your list, it's basically an existentialist essay.

A few more:
Adaptation
Mulholland Drive
No Country for Old Men
The Master
Persona (and virtually any other Bergman film)
Under the Skin
Ex Machina

I have that box set, there's a lot of brilliant stuff on there. Not I is a personal favourite.

I saw the opening scene to this the other night and unfortunately couldn't watch the rest. It seemed fucking incredible. Must see for me at the moment.

Edit: I'm thinking of PTA's Magnolia. Slight correction. I enjoy Lynch though don't get it twisted.

When you go to the movies do you yell things out during the slow parts to keep the crowd engaged?
