There's a reason why it's a classic while I don't think Jason ever had a true classic. I don't think there's many Friday films I actually enjoy outside of Jason Takes Manhattan for the silliness of it. I liked the first and third Freddy films and I think New Nightmare was a pretty cool take too but the rest were mostly trash. I liked Freddy Vs Jason contrary to how hated that movie seems to be. Candyman is may all time favorite though. There's just a rawness to it that you don't really get from most slasher films which end up becoming really cartoon with their kills.

Lucem, you're right, it's silly to talk about what I would or wouldn't do IRL. Glad you brought it up. Maybe you should write an instrumental about it. I recommend a piano paired with a clarinet. With ambient sounds of you hanging from your shower curtain you ****ing failure.

Halloween is up there but how can you not love when Leatherface sticks that one girl on the hook and butchers her boyfriend in front of her while she bleeds out.

I think he considers Texas Chainsaw Massacre as a whole different beast from the slasher genre made in Halloween's image.

Maybe not a whole different beast but yeah not quite the same thing. Also I've only seen it once and don't remember it that well.

I watched it recently. The kills are very brutal and gritty where in most slasher films they tend to be a bit cartoonish, but the acting and characters are flamboyantly cartoony so it kind of kills the tone of it for me. Remake is pretty much the same problem added that it also takes away the eerie daylight of the original which was one of the most important and impactful aesthetics.

Candyman's OK but it has that 90's horror boring quality that's hard to define.
bland anything can suck it imo

Rewatched Scream last night and now I'm moving on to Scream 2 and I have two things to say:

1. I wish it was the 90s so I could still be in love with Neve Campbell.

2. Matthew Lillard had twenty minutes of being the best horror villain ever. Who'd have thought live action Shaggy from Scooby Doo would be the perfect campy psychopath? Like, all other campy psychopaths are now lessened in my eyes cause how the **** do you deliver a bull**** line like "IT'S A SCREAM, BABY!" in a movie called Scream and have it be even more awesome than it is silly?
