What's The Latest Film You Have Seen?

Sci Fi is certainly one of my favorite genres.

Of all the broad genres. Drama, Comedy, Epic, Sci Fi, Fantasy, Horror, Mystery, Action, Western, Film Noir, Musical, I love em all when done right.

If theres one I'm not terribly into it's romantic comedy. Woody Allen and Norman Jewison films are the exception to the rule. Though I also really liked When Harry met Sally and As Good as it Gets. And Lost in Translation but that's more like an anti-romantic comedy.

yeah but sci-fi crossovers are so much more interesting - the Aliens and Terminators of this world. There haven't been any really good, mind-blowingly original sci-fi canons conceived recently, everything you see points to Star Wars, the Alien sci-fi/horror thing, Terminator sci-fi/action

new Terminator film looks pants from the trailer aswell. Common playing the token black sidekick. jesus christ

with you on romcoms, I think it's cause the genre is dominated by this fluff that's cynically marketed to women who know nothing about films and deny reality... that factory-line chick-flick bullsh*t

For sure. Stuff that has elements of Sci- fi I really like but stuff that is almost exclusively set in space rarely does it for me but then Westerns and Modern war movies are not amongst my favourites either. I think we both have to agree that 'Primer' was a damn original Sc Fi. such a great movie.

indeed, that recent Danny Boyle one was another enjoyable space film, it suffered from having a distinct 2001-meets-28 Days Later vibe though, it's all just pick n mix

this is interesting but they must be missing alot (Primer!) - count the ones you've seen...

Four and this is definitely missing of the list: The Navigator: A Mediaeval Odyssey (1988). I agree about Sunshine but it looks stunning and it has managed 3 viewings from myself so it can't be that bad!

Which is why the best romantic comedies are always done in a fair and objective way and dosen't take sides in the gender roles. Annie Hall, Moonstruck, It Happened One Night, Philadelphia Story, As Good as it Gets and When Harry Met Sally are excellent romantic comedies because they give an honest portrayal of relationships. And romantic comedies only work when both characters are funny and interesting, that's a fact.

Today romantic comedies are all about this "Men are pigs but keep waiting for that prince charming" BS. They're marketed strictly for women when a good romantic comedy should be enjoyed by anyone that's ever fallen in love or has been in a relationship.

been meaning to see this for time. Really clever if slightly dated PG-13 espionage thriller, great cast. Whenever it threatened to be dragged down in my estimation by that nagging daytime television feeling it charmed me with it's script. It was just good old-fashioned twists, turns and tension and it has made me appreciate Robert Redford. Recognized River Phoenix in a bit part and decided to investigate further...

... I really ought to have seen this earlier. Gus Van Sant has done some real pap, but this was better than 'Drugstore Cowboy', 'Good Will Hunting' and 'Gerry' put together. It follows Phoenix's character Mike, a narcoleptic hustler; but the second act randomly detours into Scott's (Reeves in full wood mode) story, which as is turns out is an adaptation of Henry IV, which I've never read, but this injected some lyricism and intrigue into the narrative which was much appreciated. Who doesn't love Shakespeare?
I'm still reeling from R.P's understated performance, what a talent. Sexy as f*ck too.
