Well at least Ladykillers bombed and nobody is going to remember the Alfie re-make in 30 years.
If it makes you feel any better it's by no means Britain-specific, Hollywood remakes everything. I actually heard there are plans in the works to do a remake of Short Circuit for fucks sake.

I swear. The quantity of crappy sequels, remake and adaptations of tv shows, comic books and video games has never been greater than it is now. And it seems every other movie has to be based on a book or a play. Very few people in hollywood nowadays have ideas of their own.

That's not true, it's just that the good scripts get passed over in favor of doing shit like a remake of Friday the 13th.

Tis' a shame, I expected more from Mike Judge.

Judge did this same kind of satire with Beavis and Butthead much much more successfully.
I enjoyed the movie, but I do agree it was lacking in the execution. But it still got many laughs out of me, it had so many great ideas.

I also just saw Watchmen today. It was was one of the best movies I've seen in a while.

Cheesy goodness in the form of a bad slasher film.

I love the fact that a person named Fish and a person named Bass both star in this movie.

new wave... have you seen Billy Liar? if you haven't that has to be right at the top of your list, you'd lav it. There's too many to mention really. I am a slave to kitchen sink dramas of the 60's

Hollywood has absolutely slaughtered a couple recently - Ladykillers, Alfie. Why?!
Yeah, I didn't really take to Brighton rock (Attenborough was just a little over the top for my taste) but Brief encounter I absolutely loved. Celia Johnson is an incredible actress, I got goosebumps during her monologue in In which we serve...

I'm actually going through the BFI top 100 list so Billy liar was gonna be on there but I'll push it up the queue...

Further suggestions are welcome, while I'm still on the Brit trip...

Saw Watchmen yesterday.
I loved it.
My girlfriend hated it.

Insanely brave and important film for gay rights (made while homosexuality was still illegal in Britain). Props to all involved, especially Bogarde... 8/10

Watch Bogarde in The Servant based on Harold Pinters play. Astonishing.
