Watchmen 7.9/10

I was a little disappointed, considering I drove an 3 hours there and three hours back to see this movie on opening night. The beginning was kinda long, loved the ending, except I was really disappointed about some of the changes they made that don't match up with the graphic novel. The Bob Dylan song they used in the movie during the opening credits was wonderful, such a good choice of a song (it's one of my favorite Bob Dylan songs though). I also was so happy they used Sound of Silence that being one of my other favorite songs ever. However some of the other music they used was horrid, just horrid, I felt like they were taking a shoe and beating you on the top of the head with how you should feel in the scene. Like in the sex scene (with is only one page in the graphic novel) was just drawn out and miserable.

And question for anyone else who saw that movie, where the **** was David Bowie, I was so excited when I heard he was going to be in it, and I looked and looked and me nor any of my friends could find him.

I only remember exploding heads and the final showdown when they are having their psychokinetic battle and making eachother's eyes bleed.

Honestly though, David Cronenberg is *mostly* too good. And Michael Irons who was the bad guy in that film needs to come back and play bad guys/psychotic one-armed spacemarine drill instructors. Unless he's dead?

Let the Right On In

A very overshadowed (Mostly thanks to Twilight) vampire love story set in Sweden in the 1980's. Tells the story of an alienated 12 year old boy named Oskar who forms a friendship with his new mysterious neighbor, a 12 year old girl named Eli. Both outcasts from society they form a unique friendship then relationship. A very touching love story that totally blows Twilight out of the water in every way possible. The romance between Oskar and Eli is acted out with such grace and finesse that you're almost left wondering if it's real. I would totally recommend it to anyone who wants to get back at their girlfriend for dragging them to Twilight, or anyone who just wants to watch a very good film.

Films I have seen recently;

Manhunter - 8/10
I thought this was a great film and a pretty good introduction for the character of Lecter in to films. Cox's Lecter doesn't have as much presence, charm or charisma as Hopkins' Lecter does, but I still thought his performance was good and William Peterson was awesome as Will Graham.

Heat - 10/10
Can't believe this wasn't nominated for anything at the Academy Awards that year. I haven't seen it in years and bought the two-disc special edition the other day for only €8.99. Epic crime story, which is probably my favourite film genre's, and IMO this really is up there with the best of them. Enjoyed this much more than films like Goodfellas and The Untouchables and Pacino's Vincent Hanna character was pretty cool and a little over the top. I strongly recommend this for fans of crime movies who haven't yet seen this.

The Silence of the Lambs - 10/10
Absolute classic. Hopkins as Lecter is chilling and I think it was a very good decision to only have Lecter on-screen for a short amount of time. Any longer and the impact of his performance may not have been as good. Sure, it's always fun to see more of an interesting character like that, but I think it's what you don't see of Lecter in this film that makes you remember him almost as much as what you do see of him. As amazing as this is, I'd still like to have seen what Michael Mann (director of Manhunter) would have done with this.
