I last saw Watchmen and it was exquisite. Lengthy, yeah, but overall totally worth it.

Yeah. I just saw Get Carter the first time a couple months ago and absolutely loved it. Such great atmosphere and so many great moments. It really made Newcastle look like a shithole. After watching the movie I was intrigued about this city that I knew nothing about so I did a little reading up on it and was surprised to learn how much it's changed since then. From the pictures I saw it looks like a pretty nice place these days.

Compared to how it was back then (keep in mind I wasnt alive then so I can obviously only go on what I know, what I have researched and what I have learned) it is a very nice place now yeah. It still has some districts that arent quite as nice of course, as most places do. Billy Elliot and Purely Belter made Newcastle look a bit of a **** hole too, its easy to do depending on where you are filming.

I haven't noticed that to be honest. Seems like a regular city. Maybe I just haven't seen what a proper nice city is supposed to look like...*unsure*

Well Newcastle and Sunderland both have very working class backgrounds, as does a large proportion of the country. We had a lot of industry like coal and shipbuilding. A hell of a lot of people were employed to work in the shipyards in this part of the country, my grandad was one of them. Ive seen quite a lot of photo's and so on of Newcastle in the 19th and 20th centuies and its not like it ever looked a really awful place or anything but its always had its poorer districts.

All that is kind of a thing of the past now but still to this day if you film in the relevant areas you can still make the place look quite poor or hard up. Purely Belter has a lot of scenes in the city centre and in Gateshead at the Angel of The North and so on which show some of the more modern and attractive areas of the city (yes, i think referred to the Angel as attractive) so it's not all bad but both that film and Billy Elliot do focus on some of the less than glamorous areas at times.

Some of the scenes in Get Carter that might make it look a ****hole were filmed right bang in the centre of the city in places that really do look so much better now.

Heh. Well for one thing Get Carter makes it look really desolate and empty a lot of the time. Desolation is usually a pretty big red flag that a city is in rough shape. Also looming Brutalist architecture makes it look pretty harsh. And beaches covered in black residue. And a giant metal bucket dumping rubble out into the ocean.

I actually like it but I definitely think it makes a city look unfriendly.
