I knew about all that but it's not even evident in the movie. Like if a lil kid watched it, they would have no idea what the book's meaning is.

Just to comment on Roger Ebert- I honestly stopped listening to this guy when he gave Gladiator 2 stars. It's not brilliant, has it's flaws.... but it IS my favorite movie to date, so it was then that I decided to stop listening to this clown, because we just have different taste. (I too laughed when I saw 4 stars for Knowing- what kind of sexual favors did Nicolas Cage have to perform to pull that off?)

Anyway, I saw I Love You, Man over the weekend and I really enjoyed it. I saw a lot of myself in both Paul Rudd and Jason Segal's characters, so I thought overall it was very honest and relatable- which definitely added to the movie. Funny- I laughed a lot. Worth seeing for sho.

Insomnia-
It was alright, a little bland.

The Beach-

Dumb, dumb, dumb. Their is no depth towards any character, and they jump around from sad to happy to crazy back to sad again all in the last 15 minutes. It seemed like a blatant rip-off of the book "Lost Horizon" just without any of the good stuff.

Right about The Beach, wrong about Insomnia.

What? THAT'S when you stopped listening? Not when he thumbed down Clockwork Orange, Blue Velvet, Reservoir Dogs, Full Metal Jacket, Edward Scissorhands and Usual Suspects and thumbed up Garfield, Home Alone 3, Cop & a Half, Hitman and Fast & The Furious 3?

You know, I hope this site never gets overtaken by pretentious film snobs who hate everthing American, like my other forum.

What are your thoughts on Amelie?

not when you have films such as The Asphalt Jungle, Taxi Driver and Light Sleeper in your canon. Damn fine movies.
