Last 30 minutes could have been better.

The last 30 minutes are pretty much as faithful to the book as most movies can get. The only real difference was that there was a character in the book named Rab who didn't appear in the movie and instead was kind of fused into Spud's character. I'm still hold out hope that Danny Boyle will make a movie version of the book Porno using the same actors.

It's good isn't it? And it works well when you want to watch a short comedy with some mates since it clocks in at only 90 min. I saw it at the International film festival before it came out at the cinema. I love how much chaos there is on every front - quite an enjoyable film.

Did it resolve things with Diane in the book? That's the main thing that peeved me, along with how the whole drug deal was kind of irrelevant to Ewan's (can't remember his character's name) battle against addiction. It seemed he was completely over it by the time he got to London.

That's because he was for the most part. He did have a slight relapse when he was forced to test the purity of the stuff they bought of Mikey Forrester, but it was nothing more than a hiccup really. The drug deal was a major turning point in the story because Renton (Ewan) realized that as long as he lived in the U.K. he'd never be free of Begbie, that he would eventually track him down. He saw the money as his one chance to fully escape the life that had been keeping him down his adult life. Him stealing the money was his way of burning the bridges between all of his friends, especially Begbie because he would never forgive him and thus he could never really return to Scotland. With the money he buys a one way ticket to Amsterdam and starts up a night club there and becomes moderately successful. The only thing about the ending that I didn't like was that he didn't bring Spud with him, but that was a decision that forever haunted Renton and does come up a bit in the sequel to Transpotting, Porno. He does, however, leave him his share of the money, which Spud promptly spends on his drug habit. As far as Diane is concerned, she shows up and becomes a very prominent character in Porno, which takes place about 10 years after Trainspotting.

Renton was still into heroin when they were in London. And it wasn't irrelevant it gave him the opportunity to start fresh which he does. Also there some irony in there about him, Spud, & Sick Boy selling the very thing they were addicted to.

It was really great, the guy tripping on acid knocking over the coffin then climbing on the roof naked threatening suicide, that one guy who was a hypochondriac who get shit on by the old uncle, the midget who was a lover of their father and who is accidentally force fed acid, the brother who lives in the others shadow, great characters.

I really hope they don't make Porno, that book was pretty awful.

Probably one of my favourite movies. I think it's just really moving and fantastic.

Anyway, I saw this the other night:

I've been an avid reader of the Harry Potter books since I was about 11 or so... kind-of grew with them as they did. I think they are one of the best book-to-film adaptations I've come across, and this film wasn't any exception. There were a few discrepancies between the book vs. film but it would be impossible to adapt it identically. The only thing that annoys me is little kids in the cinema who clearly wouldn't understand it and is completely inappropriate seeing as the films are getting quite dark. Can't wait for the next two though

Why do you think it was horrible? I thought it was a pretty good adaptation. Seeing as that book was basically a 'connector' book between plots... a lead-up to the final events.

It sacrificed all the of the interesting backplot on Tom Riddle's history... for quirky teenage romance. If I want that sort of entertainment, I could watch TV.
