I watched The Lives Of Others last night, one of the best films I've seen in a long time. I bought it on DVD earlier in the year and for some reason never go around to watching it, but finally did so last night and was left wondering why I hadn't watched it sooner. Great story on a background of an interesting period of history in the Socialist climate of East Germany and the Stasi. Lots of emotion and good character development.

Watched Fears of the Dark too, a collection of 10 animated films in black and white on the theme of the dark. It was okay, but some of the plots were a bit strange to the point of ridiculous. and lacking. Some were brilliant however, and the animation in them all was great, just a little something missing though. Interesting concept though.

Watched this today after picking it up over the weekend:

Damn. I really enjoyed it and was taken aback with how much The Matrix borrowed from it. I actually wanted it to be longer and get some more back story on the characters but It was good enough for me to want to watch again very soon.

The picture was a little soft in places and the greens bled a lot but I'm a boring old cinephile and I'm sure it won't bother many others. Well worth the quid I paid for it though.

Teenagers From Mars
Enjoyable but a bit long for the speed of the movie I thought. Maybe I've just been watching too much Twilight Zone. That Gargon looked an awful lot like your standard lobster...

As I was watching Push, I could tell the writers were writing themselves into a corner and I wanted to see how they got out of it. I didn't like how the plot played itself out in the end. I don't think they did a good job.

I was in the mood to see a cheesy action movie so I popped in 12 rounds.....John Cena still can't act very well but it was slightly entertaining

Last night I watched Perfume and 28 Days Later. Don't know how I've gone so long without watching the latter as it seems like a film that the majority of people have seen, especially in the UK. I thoroughly enjoyed both, Perfume because i not long ago read the book which it was based on, so it's always interesting to see how they did it. I also enjoyed 28 Days Later, wasn't quite sure what to expect but I was impressed. I thought it would be non-stop zombies (infected?) and relentless action so I was delighted with the opening half an hour of vacant London and a slightly slower pace at times.

Does Perfume stay true to the novel? I've never read Perfume but I've seen the film, so I was a little shocked to see how the movie progressed, without having any idea of what to expect. Somehow I think in text some of the scenes, particularly towards the end, would be alot easier to ingest.

The orgy scene right? Can imagine it was rather strange having not read the book!

I'd say they did to a large extent, probably because the author had a say. I heard it took him years and years to be convinced to sell the rights for a film production. At least half of the book (probably more) is devoted solely to his childhood and up until the point where Baldini's shop collapses and he leaves Paris, so I guess they missed out huge chunks of this. The book is unparalleled when it comes to describing how his nose allows him to smell things. It's worth reading just for this, really detailed and puts you in the position of Grenouile. Quite amazing. Other than that and the fact in the book they make Grenouille out to be repulsive to look at, it's quite faithful I'd say.
