Although I love the image aesthetics in Lynch's movies, which in this one will be great miss, I guess the sound design is the real work of creation with Lynch, imo.
U noticed the sound design? My new favourite poster! I only listened to the film with the stereo (2.0) soundscape and haven't yet checked out the 5.1 soundtrack on the disc although using a DV camera there is a lot that seemed to get lost in translation.

I agree completely with your statement about why he used DV and in terms of the story it was the best choice but as he used a standard definition camera (just before the current HD BOOM), the picture is very grainy in parts and loses a little power.

Yeah I know, I don't get his self-sabotage side lol.
And when you talk about sound in movies, nobody can be a sound designer and not get obsessed with Lynch's ingenuity in the studio. It's experimental all the way, nothing is good to do or bad to do, he just does it ... and only get liked by his restrained fan base lol.

** Oh and the album I sent you on the weekly trade (Julee Cruise's), was co-written by Lynch.

I made some kind of a summarized review of the must seen Lynch short movies. Which are the only works, in my opinion, that let him act freely and experiment on his will, without having a budget problem. It's like Lynch, raw.

Yeah I got this one, really good album. I saw somewhere a video of Lynch while recording his voice to one of the songs, with a complete pitch shifted voice. It was really nice watching it in the making

Edit: I just remembered that I've bought the documentary, One about Lynch, for a year now and still haven't watched it.

Another Cusack movie I'd never seen before; for a romance it wasn't too bad; it captured, at least atmospherically, that short-lived purity which some people seem to have when they're young and inexperienced in romance yet vanishes as the reality of a relationship sinks in.

My only beef? The whole Dad subplot was kinda meh and lacking in the tension department.

That movie's only classic moment was the beatbox over the head. It is the signature of that movie, as it's the first movie that uses a beatbox under a balcony. Other positive point may be the presence of John Cusack, the movie was "meh" all in all.

I watched yesterday:

So another John Cusack movie. I'm such a big Cusack fan, I even enjoyed America's Sweathearts. Really good movie, dark and witty. I also noticed a lot of references to gangster movies, in the scenes of killing (Reservoir Dogs, Scarface, ...) but that's just me.
