Yeah.

But it still feels like a Tarantino movie to me, which I realize as I'm watching isn't going to fit into any preconceived notions of how to view the film...

I think he can write brilliant lines and sequences but he is still a hipster and not everything he writes turns to gold.

It seems as if you cannot say anything bad against icons of America even if they are decidedly average. Shane Meadows pisses all over Tarantino from a great height as far as I'm concerned but it's all what makes you tick.

I can relate to Meadows much more than Tarantino that's all.

I've only seen

This Is England (masterpiece)
Dead Man's Shoes (decent)

but Tarantino p*sses all over Shane for me, though to be completely fair to him I need to watch his other work. Is Somers Town the next place to go? Or would Once Upon a Time in the Midlands be better?

How can you relate to Meadows as well? I've never really thought he had anything thought provoking about his stuff. Maybe bits and bobs in This is England, but nothing like this..

i thought somers town was awful too. it just wasn't the kind of thing that interested me at all(touchy feely and shallow). this is england was good though.

Meh, I suppose Dead Man's Shoes is in a way. It just reminded me of a slasher film with a little bit of revenge motive thrown in. And the ending was just like ...wut?

I really need to watch it. I haven't seen it in 2 years or so, therefore maybe I just didn't 'get it' at first watch.

And yeah, scratch 'bits and bobs'. This is England is very thought provoking, but not in a modern day sense, and it isn't something I could 'relate to' it was kind of like displaying the 80s way of life. I guess you may relate to that a lot more than I can.

You didn't grow up in America either but you can relate to Tarantino more than Meadows? I weep I really do. Our national identity is ****ing nil theses days.

I never said I could relate to Tarantino more, but he's a lot more entertaining. I've seen everything Tarantino has done, and I've only seen 2 Meadows films. So it's a bit unfair to compare them.
