What's The Latest Film You Have Seen?

Couldn't agree with tht review snippet in the poster more. Definitely among the best war movies I've ever seen and, seeing as I finished re-watching Band Of Brothers the other day, it's nice to see a well-done story from the opposite perspective. The whole thing does kinda lose momentum for the last 20-30 minutes, but great stuff overall.

I enjoyed it more than I expected to. Definitely tried a little to hard in some places but it hit a lot of the right notes, which made it not only watchable but uncomfortably familiar.

This was fascinating. You wouldn't think it would be--except for some bookending narration, the entire thing is a single, contiguous, 100-or-so-minute conversation that's highly philosophical in nature and requires kind of undivided attention. But I found myself wanting to jump in with my own arguments and I had to take a minute to sit and stew about it afterwards. Definitely recommended if you've got a significant attention span.

Speaking of significant attention spans... I'm not sure this needed to be 146 minutes, but I'm also not sure what I'd cut out of it. It's also a lot darker than I expected, even having heard that about it going in. I enjoyed it though, even though I don't feel the need to watch it again soon.

I thought Kingdom Of Heaven was outstanding, far better than Gladiator (even though that is decent enough). I don't understand the criticism aimed at that film apart from it stars Orland Bloom.

I didn't say that he forgot how to direct films, I said he forgot how to direct that kind of films, meaning sci-fi. He was so good at it. I was just lamenting over the fact that he had chosen to follow different path. Btw, believe it or not, I still haven't seen Kingdom Of Heaven. Gladiator was an entertaining film and it satisfied my need for historical epics from Ridley Scott. Maybe I'm missing out, but I probably won't see Robin Hood either. OK I will eventually see Kingdom of Heaven, because that film seems to be very polarizing, but it's never on my 'to watch list'. Now, if he would direct some sci-fi again, I'd probably see it immediately.

I don't think the Alien prequel will be much good, I think he's lost it.

Hannibal and Matchstick Men are brilliant films. Definitely a couple of the best I've ever seen, and Ridley directed them a good 20 years after Alien and Bladerunner.

Matchstick Men was a solid enough film but brilliant? Nope. His best 00s work that I've seen is American Gangster, although I haven't seen Black Hawk Down yet.
