The French Connection (1971)
I had been really looking forward to this movie but I have to say I was somewhat disappointed by it. It had some great moments and the soundtrack was terrific but overall it left me kind of cold.

This is the first time you have seen it?

It is certainly not an absolute classic as some would lead you to believe but it's still a fantastic film and that ending is quite simply superb. I thought Scheider and Hackman make a great team and prove what underrated actors they are.

I have never read any Bukowski on which this film is loosely based upon via his fictional characters and just like the main character (played with aplomb by Dillon) it lacks focus and becomes a little too repetitive in it's themes. Yes you drink, you write, you meander through life- what's new?

It lacks an insight-fullness of say American Splendor that at least had a sly humour behind it's depiction of everyday drudgery.

Maybe if I was familiar with Bukowski's writing then I could maybe appreciate it more.

Holy wow. This is one of the best/weirdest movies I've seen in a very long time. There were so many crazy ideas in it and it was really well pulled off, I would recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen it. You don't even have to know who John Malkovich is.

Being John Malkovich is definitely a favourite, I was wowed by how good it was as I never expected it to be anything more than ok/decent.

Haha I liked it. I don't know if David Spade has ever truly succeeded on his own, but this was worthwhile enough. Reminds me of the better Sandler movies from the 90s...

Not as good as the first, but I still enjoyed it. There was no real epic fight scene in the movie. The fight with Elle was going to be pretty epic until it ended anticlimatically same with the fight with Bill. Instead of them going in an intense action sequence they just die.
