What's The Latest Film You Have Seen?

I just saw The Innocents from 1961

It's a black and white psychological horror movie in which a governess hired to take care of a couple of children believe the children are being possessed. It is based on the Henry James novel The Turn of the Screw which I haven't read, but I really enjoyed the movie. It was intelligent, very effective in it's cinematography with a thoroughly creepy atmosphere. It's nice to watch a horror classic which doesn't vent suspense each chance it gets with cheap spooks, but keeps building that suspense right up until the very end of the film .. The ending was just lovely and left me guessing which I both love and hate.

Recommended to those who think they might like a creepy, classic horror movie which should appeal to ghost believers and sceptics alike

By the way, the movie inspired Kate Bush to write the song "The Infant Kiss" which I love of course!

^Excellent film! It has a clear influence on The Others among other films, which I praised the other day. But, I must say The Innocents is better.

Oh and I didn't know it inspired Kate Bush. Cool!

AMAGAD I just watched paranormal activity 2 and it was sooooo awesome! I totally wasn't expecting it connect with the first. Can't wait for PA3!

Yes, there's definetly a strong connection between this one and The Orphanage as well .. also preferable to The Others in my opinion

I don't think it was as good as the first two but it had it's moments.

Well damn, I have to see The Orphanage then.

What I like about The Innocents the most is the ambiguity throughout the film and especially of the ending. It can be interpreted in more ways than one. And Deborah Kerr was great in it.

Definetly! It's not the first movie I've seen which does this, but it was brilliantly pulled off in this one. I'm not sure what to believe as there are clues supporting every theory/hypothesis I have about it ..

I thought it was quite a well made documentary. The parts of Detroit it showed were crazy. I had no idea it was that bad. 8/10

I thought it was a good movie, but it really didn't scare me at all. Still wrapped me up in the story and built a good atmosphere. As for the acting Jack Nicolson was really good, but the woman wasn't that great and the kid was almost laughable at some points. Still a good movie though. 8/10

Spoiler for The Innocents: Also, we were never shown what kind of influence they had on children, especially Quint on the boy. Was he corrupting him? I don't know how it is in the novella though. I believe all we see in the film are Kerr's interpretations, because the film is kinda shown from her point of view and she's in every frame if I remember correctly. She was obviously obsessed with corruption and a fear of losing innocence. I think that's the underlying theme of the movie hinted in the title. Ffs, she interpreted children's whispering and sharing secrets, basically playing, as something sinister and evil. I heard that her character in the novel is a lot younger and thus inexperienced and still sheltered in a way. But I think the fact that in the movie it's played by an older actress makes her behavior all the more disturbing. __________________ Last.fm
