I also think Friends was a great show. At times the writing was somewhat cringeworthy and overly dramatic, and at other times it was bang on. I think it gets **** on so much by critics because of how big it was.

Basically there are probably hundreds of worse American sitcoms, it's just they weren't significant enough for anyone to give a ****.

old post but i watched freaks and geeks years ago when it aired on TV originally but just recently realized either sundance or IFC has freaks and geeks on all the time. great show, a shame it didnt have more seasons.

totally agree. friends wasnt my favorite but is hated because it was so big. it was really a pretty funny show and all the characters fit together well. tis hard to have that kind of staying power let alone when you are at the top like that show was.

my favorite show of all time is curb your enthusiasm. i also really liked seinfeld

I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm not gonna argue with someone who doesn't like Friends but yeah, it's the degree to which people rag on it that somewhat bothers me. People feel really passionate in their hatred for it and I notice a lot of people here in the UK, the kind of people who will happily paint all US comedy and a supposed inferior American sense of humour with the same brush, who use it as a shining example of a bad American comedy.

Please. Does nobody remember Stacked and Hope & Faith for starters?

I think it's such a great show, I love it. Definitely in my top 3 favourite sitcoms I'd say!

Well it's one of the most successful, watched TV shows of all time, so obviously it is a loved show. But with great success comes a lot of criticism. I expect and accept criticism, some people just won't like it and thats cool. But it's the kind of show where even those people who normally wouldn't have an opinion have one, and so a lot of the criticism gets exaggerated.

I had no idea I did either til I just randomly came across it on tvlinks. Fantastic little show that just didn't go on for long enough as well. I love that psychotic freelance photographer the magazine kept using - really fun character.

Compared to Everybody Loves Raymond and King Of Queens, which along with My Family and Two Pints this side of the Atlantic are the most painfully unfunny shows I've ever watched, Friends is Citizen...if Citizen Kane ran for 10 seasons and starred Jennifer Aniston...

But really though, I completely agree. I get the criticism of Friends, even agree with it to varying degrees in places, but I still love the show all the same. A guilty pleasure, I guess you could call it.

I watched Dirt during its original run on FX and I was a bit sad when they cancelled it after the second season I believe it was.

I agree with you about Everybody Loves Raymond and King of Queens being unfunny. I actually liked watching King of Queens for a bit though but just random episodes here and there. I didn't stick with it for seasons or anything.

I only liked the first season of Friends and I just gave up on it after that. It really got under my skin for some reason. Also, the big elephant in the room is how little they showed of other races while living in NYC of all places come on now! No hispanics or black people. Except for that one time one of them had a token gf. they finally addressed the issue but she was the ONLY one.

It probably wasn't a very diverse show. I have noticed that myself. However, in terms of quality, I think it got a hell of a lot better after the first season. It's best years were a three or four period in the middle of its run. In my opinion anyway.

I also love Curb, but Seinfeld is probably my favourite American sitcom. Maybe even my favourite sitcom. Arrested Development has given it a good run for its money though.

I downloaded the first series of Arrested Development but keep forgetting to watch it! Life tends to get in the way.
