I would suggest seasons 4, 5 and 6 of the Sopranos.

I watched The Queens Gambit recently, really enjoyed it. I seen loads about Squid Game but wasn’t sure if it was overhyped. I suppose there is only one way to find out.

I watch The Sopranos with my boyfriend. I’m not sure what show to start on my own.

If you already knew what it was then you're cursed too.

On to the next potential victim then.

So far probably the best 2021 show I've seen. Excellent performances (although I wasn't 100% sold on Winslet's American accent) and interesting plot (although I think they try to cram in too many things at times and some twists and how they were discovered were not very believable), it makes for an enjoyable week of TV.
This got great writeups but I have to say I lasted one episode and hated it.

Have you seen Sons of Anarchy? Or Gangs of London? Just thinking Sopranos-like. Have you watched Line of Duty? Assume you have, and if not, why not? And if you want something more, um, Scottish, the excellent Mark Bonnar in season one of Guilt (don't bother with season two though)

Watching Vigil now, yeah it’s good. Only thing is, when you see Johnson from Peep Show it’s hard to think of anything other than “Germans? Sausages? Do I have to spell it out? The sausage-munching Boche!”

Versailles (Netflix)

Very clever and for some reason believable. Also surprisingly queer. I think it may have been a bit controversial in France considering it's a Canal+ show about Versailles and Louis XIV but is for some reason (I'm guessing maximum commercial impact) filmed in English with English actors. It doesn't bother me although I imagine it could have been just as good if not better in French.

Versailles is brilliant, and the music is to die for. Three seasons I think, and yes, it could have been subtitled, true, especially being shown on BBC, but I think they went for a broader appeal which seems to have worked. It is pretty visceral though, as you might expect.
