Who's going to see Avatar?

It was the first film I'd seen in 3D I cannot believe how overrated I thought the film was until I watched it. Graphics were immense and the storyline wasn't as bad as made out, yeah it was cliche but it worked.

I'm so excited because I'm going to be watching it on IMAX tomorrow night. I watched it in 3D and it was simply amazing. I can only imagine how good IMAX will be.

Well this is some bullshit!. Avatar won best picture at the Golden Globes! Fuck me! Well it's not like anyone ever trusted those award shows to deliver anyway.

Then again, I guess it's only as bad as Dances With Wolves winning. They're basically the same story.

Didn't mean to sound that way, really. Just enjoyed the film and think people around here have the tendancy to go against the grain. It's like "Yeah, wow i'm so impressed you thought The Dark Knight was overrated. Yeah... that's great, uh huh... you're such a rebel because you don't like Avatar."

Besides, I was talking about from a technical perspective. The cameras they developed for this movie are going to be revolutionary.

^ I feel the same way about a certain percentage of MBers feelings regarding super hyped indie albums, but that's another story. Anyway, I liked Avatar and everything but there were far better films this year and I think that should have been taken into account for the Golden Globes.

I saw Avatar about a week ago and don't think I've posted in here about it yet. I thought it was really good, definitely up there with James Cameron's best movies, but the 3D was really overrated, more of a distraction than anything else and think I would've been more immersed in the movie if it was in regular old 2D. I'm actually kind of puzzled as why people have made such a big deal out of the 3D in this movie. Yeah, it looks better than 3D did back in the 50s but it doesn't seem any better than the 3D they've been using for the past 20-25 years at places like Disney World and Universal Studios.

Did you see it in IMAX and 3D? That's the way to go.

I'm not raving as much about the 3D as the virtual cameras they invented for the all CG scenes. Essentially it allows filmakers to use a physical camera in a large room to navigate their own virtual creation, allowing more realistic shots in the CG world.

I think they've been doing that in movies for quite a while. I remember seeing something years ago about how they did that during one of the scenes in the first Lord of the Rings movie.
