Important question I've been meaning to ask...

It's like this weird cross between happiness, depression and not knowing what to do with your life anymore. The last part would make sense if I finished playing 100 hour game but it doesn't make any sense when finishing a 2 hour film.

TBH I can understand feeling this way about a game if you play about 5-10 games that are new to you a year, but I've spent so much time playing a lot of great stuff that's new to me that I've never had this feeling within the past few years.

Films are a different matter, however. Maybe I've just had **** luck, but I've found 80-90% of the films that I've watched to be average or flat-out terrible, so I actually do get this feeling when I find one that I think is actually great.

I think the correct word is catharsis but it feels... wrong being applied to watching 50 First Dates.

Very rarely do I get this feeling with video games but most definitely films. I love the fact that certain films can touch you in such a short period of time to draw out that emotion. I don't tend to re-watch films that make me feel that way.

I've even had it happen with a tv show series finale. The Big C crushed me so badly.

Requiem for a Dream and Perfect Blue screwed me over so bad. The End of Evangelion movie also had me questioning my worth as a person for a week or so, but to be fair, I was still a hormonal teenager when I saw that.

Speaking of Japanese movies, there's this one called After Life that I highly recommend. The movie deals with life after death and how people affect each other. According to this, the afterlife isn't heaven or hell, but a state of being where your happiest memory gets played over and over again. It's a slow watch, but the effect it had on me was too profound for words.

Pacific Rim also sort of had that effect on me, but that was only because it was like watching my childhood dream come to life.

Requiem for a Dream is a common one for good reason, it makes you feel at least some way those characters must have felt. Even if you have never done drugs you almost feel like you have, got trapped & lost your life.

Her also left me with that feeling, OP. But I also think that was the point of the movie! It isn't strange.

In my experience, Catcher in the Rye left me feeling like ****. I wanted to see the rest of Holden's life! I didn't want it to end. But like all things, it must.

This has happened to me countless times. Recently as well.

After finishing Breaking Bad, I have no idea what to watch. I don't feel there is anything out there that can grip me as much.

As for movies, Buried, The Mist and Warrior have left me feeling like that.

Also, I haven't really played many big video games, but I have played The Last Of Us. Again, another example.

Watch something light, something that you can't compare to a show like Breaking Bad. Like Powerpuff Girls, or Buffy the Vampire Slayer, or Friends, or Futurama.
