That's right up your alley though isn't it? Says the one in love with Her.

It is Oscar bait wankery at its finest.

oh and btw Her is a 10/10 movie in my mind, i'm still absolutely enthralled with the lighting and design every time i watch it. there's something about it that just sticks in my head. not to mention Joaquin is still kinda underrated considering how great he's been for the past 20 or so years.

and double btw i think i would claim Spike Jonze as the 3rd best working director behind denis villeneuve and steve mcqueen

edit - oh wait actually, michael haneke has a film coming out in 2017 so i guess i take that back. drop him to 4.

Paul Thomas Anderson, Coen bros, and Shane Carruth yo. All the ones you listed are great though.

1. michael haneke
2. denis villeneuve
3. steve mcqueen
4. spike jones
5. pta
6 coen brothers
7. shane carruth

one more great film would probably bump shane carruth up the list. primer was great, and upstream color was a mind blowing first viewing. i love the Coens but i would say they're a little inconsistent compared to the others on the list.

Of your list I would say

1. Paul Thomas Anderson
2. Michael Haneke
3. Spink Jonze
4. Coen Bros
5. Shane Carruth
6. Steve Mcqueen
7. Denis Villeneuve

They're all 5 star directors though so it's kind of hard to rank.
