pete n tilly (1972, martin ritt)
Two jaded types, obviously through the mill, but making a go of it anyway. Good print.

I think Mucha will enjoy this one: the great French actress Simone Signoret and a particularly Fantômas-looking Foucault talk about Polish resistance to horrific communist repression after their trip to Poland in 1982. Signoret's bit about the actors' strike is esp striking: "there I saw a thing I've never seen elsewhere: actors boycotting work"

Now that Justice Breyer is retiring I'm actually paying attention to his work. Tribute of sorts. I do have issues with Pres. Biden's pledge to appoint a "Black Woman" to the Supreme Court once an opening is created (the current "Black Male" representative doesn't exactly represent, imo) but that's a subject for another thread.

Never read his book that he pushes here. May dip into it over the weekend.

I saw a clip of Breyer on Colbert yesterday and he seemed quite engaging and friendly. Frankly, I don't care if the next justice is purple with green pimples as long as he/she is the right person for the job. Personally, I'd love to see another Ruth Bader Ginsburg whatever color she is.

thief (1981, michael mann) free on tubi (no ads w/blocker)

An ace safe cracker wants to do one last big heist for the mob before going straight.
On a James Caan run. Barely recognized him in this fairly recent interview on Thief:

Mann on the film, 40 years later:
