Default Deus Ex Machina, or, That's So Crazy It Just Might Work!

We've all seen writers paint themselves into a corner and, clearly unable to resolve the situation, use ridiculous, unbelievable or unsupportable plot devices to get them out of jail. A character suddenly introduced out of the blue who saves the day or resolves the conundrum. A secret weapon previously undiscussed or referred to. A last-minute will discovered. The appearance, on occasion, of an actual god or godlike being that changes everything. The preceding events turning out to be a dream, a simulation or a vision of the future. Movies, TV shows, books, comics ... whatever you like, what situations have made you just shake your head, sigh and say "Dude! Really?"

While I like the message that the ending of The Game sends, it was also really, really stupid and slapped together.

I remember feeling that the ending of The Game really deflated the movie. Sometimes a plot twist can be both clever and disappointing in a dramatic sense.

Why? It's pretty simple: what movies have you seen, books have you read, TV have you watched etc where the end didn't live up to the story? Where "in a single bound our hero was free" kind of thing happened? The sort of resolution that made you shake your head and say oh come on! Where it was clear they had written the script, put the characters in a bad position that was next-to-impossible to get out of, and resolved it really badly.
