Anyway, I've been a fan of Patsy Cline for a little bit now, and I can definitely say she's been something of a gateway artist to get me to listen to a little more country. She really does have such a warm, beautiful voice that she can turn a song with even the simplest lyrics into something amazing. Have you heard of ever heard of Gillian Welch? (I'm sure you have, as I've seen her name floating around these boards quite a bit lately...) She also has a warm, down home voice reminiscent of alot of country songs from the same era. I think you'd like her alot (if you don't already!)

Well thank you, I'm always glad to hear from you. No actually I have never even heard of Gillian Welch before, and I'm really glad you brought her to my attention. Paper Wings was something else. I could really hear that old country influence but incorporating that jazzy feel made it sound fresh, you know. I really liked it. One More Dollar wasn't bad either, but in my humble opinion it almost came off like she was trying a little too hard. Probably is just me and what I've been used to hearing. Loved Paper Wings though, I really appreciate you bringing her up!

Crushedblind, I sure am glad you joined the forum, you are speaking my language sir. Yes I know Kitty Wells and I do appreciate her music and sound. But what I've heard of hers tends to run a little more on the gospel side of country and thats always kind of put me off because I've never been a fan of that. Maybe I'm just not listening to the right stuff of hers. I'll check out that version though, it might change my mind.

Yeah, I bet Patsy has probably had to sing Crazy a few million times more than she has wanted to.

Its still a damn good song though and yes, my hero Willie Nelson wrote it for her. His version isn't too shabby. But then again he can do no wrong in my eyes. Making an exception for the Toby Keith duet. Christ.

Anyway, awesome job pointing out these songs and how they answered each other like that. Glad to see you like Waylon and Jessi too. I've always been a massive Waylon Jennings fan, but you could take or leave Jessi.

As a vocalist she is sub par. I've always thought she just rode in on Waylon's coattails. If it hadn't been for him and her shacking up I don't think we would have ever even heard of her name today. But I gotta give her credit, landing Waylon Jennings, she must have been doing something right.

This song gives me goosebumps.

Blues.

The way he sings the words to this song...ahh, its perfect. His words and the way he sings them just really hit me deep. I feel this man's pain when he sings. And I love it. When an artist can evoke this sort of emotion in me, I never get tired of their music. It feels so genuine and raw and believable, Albert King has surely had the blues a few times in his day and this song is the proof. His heartbreaking pleas just rip my heart out. 'I'll give you all I own.....and thats one thing you can't deny...' Oh lord, I just want to give this poor thing a hug and tell him everything's going to be alright!

The thing that got me hooked though, and what spurred me to take a closer at this song thankfully, was that killer sax intro. My god that sax player gets down and dirty. Makes me wince its so good.

After an afternoon of listening to my music, this is the song I find myself still humming long after. I tell you, Albert King gives Muddy Waters a run for his money with this one!

Big band. Not a genre that I listen to well... at all but happened to run across this song and I have just plum shocked myself how much I've listened to it. Its called Blues in Hoss Flat, but in my opinion there is nothing bluesy about it. Especially after having just reviewed that last song by Albert King. Its one of the happiest damned songs I've ever laid ears on.

In this song, the trumpets player are amazing. The growls- love em. The trombone players are amazing. The tuba players are amazing, the drummers are amazing, the flute players are amazing, the saxs players are amazing, the clarinet players are amazing, the cooperation of instruments and timings on everything are just fucking amazing.

But thats not why I listen to the song.
I listen to this song because it makes me feel like a snobby rich asshole, and I love every second of it.
I would love to have this song playing through the streets of New York as I skip down Saks Fifth Avenue in a floor length mink coat whilst spinning my cane in a Broadway-like fashion throwing hundred dollar bills in the air and joyously spinning around them. Then happily putting my cigarrette out on a bum before bouncing off into my limousine with rediculous amounts of shopping bags in hand.
Thats what I picture everytime I listen to this song, and it makes me happy. Thats why I love it.

Jerry Lewis did a great pantomine of a boss in the Errand Boy set to the music of Baise's Blues in Hoss Flat. I remember cracking up over this scene when I'd watch it on television as a kid.
