2005

10. Ugly Duckling - Bang for the Buck
9. Queens of the Stone Age - Lullabies to Paralyze
8. Gorillaz - Demon Days
7. Mew - And the Glass Handed Kites
6. Sunn O))) - Black One
5. Bloc Party - Silent Alarm
4. DANGERDOOM - The Mouse and the Mask
3. Kanye West - Late Registration
2. Boduf Songs - Boduf Songs
1. Dälek - Absence

As this journal should have proven by now, great albums have been released in every year since the dawn ow recorded music, and 2005 is no exception. The greatness and significance of Dälek is pretty much etched in stone at this point, and that album in particular for me was a game changer. It was so uniquely different to anything I had ever heard before. A true masterpiece. Next up is the magnificent self-titled release from Boduf Songs. One of very few albums that gives me the chills due to it's lyrical and musical darkness. The rest of the list has a nice balance of Hip Hop, noise/drone and rock. And all albums I truly enjoy. 2005 was a great year.

2006

10. Ghostface Killah - FishScale
9. Agalloch - Ashes Against the Grain
8. Subtle - For Hero:For Fool
7. o'death - Head Home
6. Aceyalone Accompanied by RJD2 - Magnificent City
5. Arctic Monkeys - Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not
4. Kawabata Makoto, Anla Courtis & Rokugenkin - Kokura
3. Amy Winehouse - Back to Black
2. Milanese - Extend
1. J Dilla - Donuts

When I looked up this year, I found myself looking at a list of albums that I enjoy, but aren't in any kind of regular rotation. Albums I have essentially forgotten about for the most part. That's something I have come to expect considering the amount of albums I have listened to but so many in one year is quite strange. Even Donuts is anything but a regular listen for me. Still, most of these albums are highly recommended, and I thoroughly enjoy them all. I'll be checking a few of them out again too.

2007

10. The Peculiar Pretzelmen - Uncanny Eyes
9. Burial - Untrue
8. Animal Collective - Strawberry Jam
7. Queens of the Stone Age - Era Vulgaris
6. The Bird and the Bee - The Bird and the Bee
5. Kashiwa Daisuke - Program Music I
4. Kings of Leon - Because of the Times
3. Aesop Rock - None Shall Pass
2. Dälek - Abandoned Language
1. El-P - I'll Sleep When You're Dead

Unlike 2006, a lot of the albums on this list are very much in regular rotation, especially the top four. Three of my absolute favourite Hip Hop records of all time, and perhaps one of the most underrated albums ever by Kings of Leon. My favourite Animal Collective album also gets a well deserved spot on the list, and the rest are all personal favourites that never fail to entertain me when I do put them on. All in all, a pretty varied selection, and all albums you should either already love, or attempt to fall in love with.

This is great nostalgia for a period where I had the time to devour as much varied music as I could get my hands on, so thank you for that :-)

2008

10. Circus Contraption - The Half-Wit's Descent
9. The Bird and the Bee - Love Letter to Japan
8. Tigerstyle - Mystics, Martyrs & Maharajas
7. Boduf Songs - How Shadows Chase the Balance
6. Jesu / Battle of Mice - Jesu / Battle of Mice
5. Cough - Sigillum Luciferi
4. Why? - Alopecia
3. Flying Lotus - Los Angeles
2. o'death - Broken Hymns, Limbs & Skin
1. People Under the Stairs - Fun DMC

The funny thing is that when I thought about 2008 before doing this, I wasn't expecting much. It just didn't pop out to me as a year that had many great releases. But to my surprise, the Top 6 in this list are some of my favourite records ever. But for whatever reason I just didn't associate them with this year. Regardless, at #1 I have my first favourite underground Hip Hop album ever. A true life changer for me. Also featuring is what continues to be my favourite FlyLo release, and several other top tier albums. That made for a difficult ordering process. Overall a nice mix of genres and a list of very high quality in my opinion. Truly one of the better and more consistent years to date in my listening history.

2009

10. Lonesome Wyatt & Rachel Brooke - A Bitter Harvest
9. Mouse on the Keys - An Anxious Object
8. Shabazz Palaces - Shabazz Palaces
7. Satan's Pilgrims - Psychsploitation
6. Desire - II
5. A Place to Bury Strangers - Exploding Head
4. Antipop Consortium - Fluorescent Black
3. Mew - No More Stories / Are Told Today / I'm Sorry / They Washed Away // No More Stories / The World Is Grey / I'm Tired / Let's Wash Away
2. DOOM - Born Like This
1. miRthkon - Vehicle

As we edge closer to the present, I find myself being more and more aware of artists that are not included in my lists. No Animal Collective, Antlers, Flaming Lips, The xx etc. Albums many users would probably have somewhere in their 10's. I'm not making this point to highlight how cool and obscure I am, but more to demonstrate how much variety there is in music and what people end up listening to over time. As for my list, it's clearly varied and a lot of them are personal favourites (mainly the top 3).

2010

10. Kno - Death Is Silent
9. Pivixki - Gravissima
8. Dutch - A Bright Cold Day
7. Acid Eater - Black Fuzz on Wheels
6. Flying Lotus - Cosmogramma
5. Sufjan Stevens - The Age of Adz
4. Igorrr - Nostril
3. Solex vs. Cristina Martinez + Jon Spencer - Amsterdam Throwdown King Street Showdown!
2. Beach House - Teen Dream
1. Kiss the Anus of a Black Cat - Hewers of Wood and Drawers of Water

This year was really difficult for me to narrow down from, and just as hard to order the list itself. There are some absolutely fantastic albums that didn't make the cut, but I'm here to tell you why these albums did. Let's start with the Top 5. All of these albums mean a great deal to me for different reasons, and are either at - or near - the pinnacle of their respective genres in my opinion. The rest of the list comprises of IDM, Noise Rock, Trip-Hop, Avant-Garde Jazz and Hip Hop classics at least in my estimation. A list of truly high quality.
