fwiw I love it

think you’re right about Tweedy btw - wrong direction
No but I'll check it out. As for Tweedy, Wilco is one of the most boring bands I've ever heard and I just don't get why people are so into them and why those records are so well regarded.

I think they marketed themselves into a little intellectual niche and then they got on Nonesuch which added more credibility. Uncle Tupelo were really good and then Wilco was just bland but they did it in a way where they didn’t get called out on it. Sometimes a band can fool a lot of the people for a long time.

Wilco is about as entertaining as the Steely Dan songs you don’t know.

Thurston Moore
The Best Day

Sounds a bit like Murray Street but I still f*cking love Thurston. I dig this.

Mercury Rev
Boces

This album is a lot of fun and the last time David Baker appeared with the band. Fitting way to go out.

Johnny "Hammond" Smith
Opus de Funk

Really chill and soothing organ and vibraphone jazz.

Anthony Braxton
Creative Orchestra Music 1976

It's like your band teacher in high school came to class after smoking a huge bowl of weed and washed it down with some psilocybin. Really out there jazz and big band compositions. Manages to be both fun and wildly creative.

The Church
Starfish

Classic. I don't even need to talk about it. Just slays.

The scope of Braxton's discography in both size and creativity is insane. Him and Ornette Coleman stand out in my mind as the most inimitable artists in jazz.

He’s very prolific but this is standout record even for him. He’s a tough musician to get a handle on. I ended up choosing about five of his records to try to get to know well (almost at random) and then still try to dig through his discography. Frown mentions Ornette but I think it’s a lot easier to wrap your head around Ornette’s career but tbf I’ve spent a lot more time listening to Ornette.
