Default Style Indentity Crisis

Hello!

I happened across a song on the radio while in my car that I fell in love with. It was an instrumental that, to my ears was either jazz, or blues, or maybe folk. I'm not familiar with the genre and I didn't get the name of the song or the artist, so I was hoping someone might be able to at least point me in the direction of the correct genre or style. The type of 'sound' I'm trying to identify is present in the intro of Eric Lapointe's 'Avalanche'. Here's a link: youtube.com/watch?v=d2cI4EyZWag

I realize that his imitation is just that and that it isn't genuine, but it's all I've got to go on for now. I would really love to learn more about this music. If anyone could give me a clue as to what type of music this is, I'd be very grateful!
