It's not great, but I bought it, and it was the first one I'd even remotely considered buying since By The Way...
So Since By the Way came out in 2002.. this is the first album you've remotely considered buying? Meaning you didn't want Stadium Arcadium which was great.. because that is the only album they have released in between...

And nobody would agree with you that they took a nose dive when John came back... Californication, By The Way (which you admit to liking) and Stadium Arcadium... so wtf are you talking about...

If Frusciante was still the guitarist, I do believe hat this album could've been so much better. With this new guitarists, they sound like a garage rock band and it really doesn't fit the Chili Peppers at all. I saw them a couple months ago and they can still put on a hell of a show. But this album kinda sucks without Frusciante

Funk rock? Oh wait, that was when they were actually good.

Californication and beyond was the point where they stopped sounding like RHCP, and started trying to be a pop band. This album was just pathetic, though.

I think by the way is still there best one yet. too many people are hatin on stadium arcadium! i'll agree that its whole lot different than there previous works but that's not to say it is a bad album unless you have a narrow minded view of music. same could be said about this album.

Stadium Arcadium is fine

much too eclectic for anybody to pour hate upon, really

I'm just not intersted in this band anymore. I haven't been for years. The last good album they put out was BSSM. They haven't even come close since. IMO.

BTW, I always thought that Frusciante was overrated. Have any of you heard that solo album he did years back? That was awful.
