Oh buddy, I made the switch looooong ago. I worship at the altars of Motown and Crazy Horse now. I considered a name change but it seemed like I'd be totally altered for you, my peers, if i did so.

It's my #2 record of the year.

I honestly think Kanye is done at this point. His ego, this mediocre album, and his antics have turned me off of his career. He just keeps running his image into the ground.

Default Only Just Listened To It The Whole Way Through...

I think it is reflective of albums these days in that I had only listened to the singles, yet 7 months after it dropped I finally listened to the album as a complete piece. I would class myself as a huge Kanye fan, who has seen him live thrice, and has all his albums. From that viewpoint I feel I have heard the various journeys he has been on and this is the most interesting. It is an album that makes you react instantly, but really needs to be listened to in full. There will be critics who don't like him who will criticize, especially when you call a track "I Am A God", but for the sentiment is that he is a man of power, and we are all powerful. Are we not all created in Jesus' image??

"New Slaves" is the centerpiece for me. A lot of the album is dedicated to carnal intentions, but this is the most political track. It is also the one that espouses the minimalism that Kanye has mentioned pursuing. I mean it doesn't even have drums, yet is so powerful.

I love the fact that the stimulus was minimal architecture. It's different. A lot of the lyrical themes have been done by Kanye before, but the way he says them here is particularly unique.

Johnni I think you're right that it's a unique album for him production wise, but I thought a lot of the lyrics were either redundant to his career or just lackluster. I've been shocked at how people are up lyrics like the Asian pussy or civil rights sign while any other popular artist would be excommunicated for the same exact lines. Plus they kinda just blew.

I agree about the lyrics. I don't ask much of lyrics, just that they aren't so bad that they affect my enjoyment of the music, but the lyrics on this album fail even that meager requirement. The delivery is embarrassing as well. I think I said this before in this thread but this would be a far better album if all the vocals were handled by people other than Kanye.

Totally. Though I did think he did fine on new slaves, but one for ten isn't a good record for an album (there's probably a couple others I didn't hate but that's still not great). If there was no Kanye, or minimal amounts, on this album it'd be pretty great, since the production is so different considering mainstream trends.
