FFS. They are the perfect embodiment of popular mainstream music. I am not a massive fan but I have a lot of respect for them. They are a perfect encapsulation of the popular 3 minute song. They wrote and performed most of their own music. They had longevity and rarely resorted to mawkish sentimentality.

My parents love Abba, which led to hearing a lot of their hits in the car on the way to school and the like. I love Take a Chance On Me, but otherwise I really don't have a lot of time for them

I like Abba...they're fun....pretty fun...they are not what I usually sit down and listen but every once in a while like to listen to them in my car. My parents used to love them, and I even stole a vinyl from my dad for my collection

My love for ABBA stems from my mother. When I was a kid it was ABBA, Boney-M and The Beatles 24/7.

I must admit that I'm a fan of Fernando, I Have A Dream and Dancing Queen. In general though I can't get enough of ABBA.

Does anyone know if an ABBA compilation exists of all the tracks featured in the film Mamma Mia but performed by the group themselves and not the actors?

I think if you got a couple of compilation CDs, you have just about everything. I'm not 100% sure, but, Abba Gold and maybe More Abba Gold would suffice.

I like them. I've heard all of ABBA's albums, and I think they were a rare example of a band that improved with each release, or at least did not go backwards.

Their first couple of albums are basically lightweight sing-along songs. By the time you get to ABBA - The Album, the production has improved light years, and they are tackling ambitious songs like "Eagle", "The Name of the Game" and the almost proggy "I'm a Marionette". Many people regard their final album, The Visitors, as their best, and while I have only heard it once or twice, I tentatively agree.

As for whether they were purely a pop band or partly a rock band, I couldn't care less. However I do know that they considered themselves primarily a pop group.

This was what I liked about them from the beginning... their incredible recordings and mixes on music from the second half of their career.

I liked the songs too of course, but, SuperTrouper under headphones for the first time was a real eye-opener. Or perhaps ear-opener.

Benny, Bjorn and Tretow really knew their way around a console, thats for sure.
