my absolute favourite artist in the pop field is still being Madonna, she has a bunch of solid performances that are usually overlooked, specially in ballads such as "This Used to Be My Playground" or "Oh Father"

Madonna is not who I would call the best female vocalist of any genre, but I agree with the statement about overlooked songs, many of which she helped write. Madonna probably is the queen of wistful/dark pop ballads, an area I very much appreciate.
