Personally, I think it'd be more interesting to start a Monthly Compilation thing...except prog./fusion centric. People could submit their favorite prog. track of the month, or we could do themed stuff, etc. etc.

Anyone interested in something like this?

First, a big vote of thanks to tore for all his efforts and input to keep the PFAC going. I`m sorry if sometimes he felt that it was a club with almost no members. It`s always been one of my favourite bits of MB, so I`d like to see something continue that was regular, and active, and with a prog/fusion focus.

I`d have a slight preference for the club format, just as it is, but perhaps with only two albums a month instead of four, but yes, Anteater, a monthly compilation thing would be fine too.

I`m afraid I can`t contribute that much, but I hope that between us we can keep something alive here.

I hope the mods don't see this as spam, but I will be running a Canterbury Scene Album Club on my new Canterbury Scene webiste, The Polite Force. Those who are interested are welcome At the moment, there's only me (I believe), but I'll be running it regardless in order to add content to the site .. of course more participants will be a welcome addition!

edit :

I would probably also participate here if someone else would run this thing. I think the format I used worked well. The good thing about it being a weekly thing is that it's easier to remember something you do on a weekly basis And because I never wanted anyone to feel obligated to participate, I thought going through an album every week rather than every two weeks would be better for a few reasons. It's a lot of work (but doable with some effort) to stay on top of all albums discussed, but if you're only in it for every other or every third album, then it would take a long time between discussions you partake in if every album gets two weeks. Hence, I thought for the sake of keeping the prog subcommunity alive and buzzing, an album a week was better. Also, threads have a more timeless value as they might be bumped by newcomers years in the future. Generating more threads so that new prog/fusionlovers see that there's stuff going on here that they are interested in should be good.

Baggs would join ( and attempt serious input) were it for the fact that my joining would only bode unwell for your endeavour:
if I join the Attack Brigade are sure to follow .
This would result only in derailment/stagnation of your effort.

To be honest, I don't want Baggs writing about himself in third person and listing bits of his knowledge in the most uninteresting way on The Polite Force and I don't think it would be good contribution to the Prog & Fusion Album Club either should it survive in the future. From what I can tell, you're not here to join in enlightening discussions, but to demonstrate how much you know about prog music in a way that suggests you believe that knowing more makes you a superior person. I think that's the least charming quality regularly encountered in music fans and the prog subcommunity here has so far mostly been blessed with an absence of that kind of attitude.

The reason there is an "attack brigade" is that your overall effect on what's left of the (slowly dying) prog community here is negative. I see your threads like the prog & religion one and think; "I could contribute something here, but this guy and the way he writes makes me not want to". It's like reading a condescending, boastful monologue instead of something that invites peers to a fun discussion. When attempting to be part of a community here or elsewhere and reap the benefits of that, I believe you'd be more successful if you change your behaviour.

I'm a huge a prog fusion fan. I'd love to see the thread continue. Mahavishnu Orchestra, Weather Report, Passport, Return To Forever, Brand X, Nucleus, Soft Machine are just a few of my favs.

So any fusion fans out there on MB? This is a sadly neglected part of my collection so I would love to explore it further.
