Default Talky Malky's demise

Well. Malcolm McClaren has gone the way of the proverbial flogged horse.
What the rock music world would have been without him is something we'll never know but one things for sure...he changed rock music like few other people and without him getting the Sex Pistols together a lot of very great bands wouldn't have formed!!!!

For anyone who doesn't feel like deciphering the OP: Malcolm McClaren died of cancer today in NYC. He certainly had his bad points but I always thought he was an interesting character at least. I'll miss the guy.

And with out those bands, we would be without Hot Topic, whose DYI punk tshirts from a factory in China stick it to the man just like my Invader Zim lunchbag and designer blue hair dye.
I fixed that for you.

Default Malcolm McLaren Dead

I always found this guy fascinating. Looking at pics, I totally forgot the striking resemblance he had to Johnny Rotten. I'll also remember him for his "Fans" album, his post-punk disco/opera album, which was pretty good.

I might sound like an asshole, but:

Meh.

There are few people I associate with promoting music for the wrong reasons, Malcolm McClaren is one of them. Without his commodified version of "punk" music, the Sex Pistols would have been just another fart in the guffstorm of music history. It's the same thing that stores like Hot Topic do today, they take unadulterated artists and fashion an image of complicit consumerism. I mean, I like John Lydon, I love PIL, but damn, the world would have been much better off in the absence of those Malcolm McClarens.

Your statement is actually a testament to Malky. He was obviously very integral to hype surrounding the Pistols, but your statement seems to suggest that he created the phenomenon of what many people regard as the start of punk music. As far a promoting music, what other reasons are there other than entertainment, and the dream of making lots of $$$.
