There is great punk music out there nowadays, mostly the best punk as history would suggest is always found underground and local, thats why a lot of people think there is no great punk bands out there, they just don't know anything past the gloss paper magazines they read.

Punk is also an all encompassing term for all sorts of radical music.Bands like Naked City,Melt Banana,Mr. Bungle all have their energies, sound, ideas and ethics rooted in punk but not everyone would consider them punk.

Also to know what punk is,you really have to know the real old school bands like the great Crass,The Clash,The Dead Kennedys,The Misfits,Sex Pistols,Killer,Arto,Jetset etc.
All of whom contributed greatly to the artistic as well as fashionable kick in the arse to the mainstream glam/psuedo hippie anti action culture of the 70's.

Punk is just not such a big deal anymore, but you still have new great bands.
