And yeah, glad you enjoyed the tunes! There's a ton of great punk music out there - as with most genres, it's easier to get acquainted with the classics before diving into more of the hardcore stuff, at least imo.

The iconic of course, London Calling. Got half that album stuck inside my head, especially the title track and Death or Glory. But I guess it isn't real punk, or that's what I've heard, since it was when the Clash started to experiment a bit outside of pure punk. But I might be wrong...

True yeah, doing that in general right now. Working my way through all the big names in music first. Want to hear it all first before I settle down. But a lot of the big names are probably going to stick to me. I mean there is a reason why those bands/artists got big in the first place.

Their debut is more traditional punk and also ****ing great and you should get it.

I listened to their debut. I thought it was good, but it didn't do anything "special" for me. Remote Control and Police & Thieves were good. But I'll definitely give it another listen. Usually don't like albums the first time I listen to them.

Sandinista! on the other hand, I really digged that one.

A post punk is a punk who owns the mail, the concept originated with our resident post punk guy Elphenor sometime in 2019 (?)

It's punk that went experimental basically. And it has a lot of the same history as punk and came out of the same scenes in New York, England, and Cleveland in the late 70s. First wave punk was a bunch of arty weirdos and a lot of them waited like a month before taking punk in artier directions. Some of the founding bands were "post" before punk even became a thing.

To make a comparison, if you're familiar with horror movies - punk music is like Texas Chainsaw Massacre - upfront, visceral, direct. Post punk is like Eraserhead - surreal, circuitous, convention-defying, sometimes direct and other times subtle.

Since you're already familiar with the Sex Pistols, John Lydon, after their breakup would go on to form one of the most legendary post punk groups with Public Image Ltd. Compare the sound of the Sex Pistols to the sound of tracks like these:

Punk taking a cue from prog and Krautrock pretty much. It might be one of those terms that didn't really emerge til after the 80's though.
