Leaving out the proto-punk and post-punk and going with one album per band, off the top of my head...

Buzzcocks - Singles Going Steady (1979)
The Clash - The Clash (1977)
The Damned - Damned Damned Damned (1977)
Dead Boys - Young Loud and Snotty (1977)
The Heartbreakers - L.A.M.F. (1977)
Ramones - Ramones (1976)
Sex Pistols - Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols (1977)
The Stranglers - Rattus Norvegicus (1977)
Wire - Pink Flag (1977)
X-Ray Spex - Germfree Adolescents (1978)

Is exclusively proto/post punk okay?

Buzzcocks - Spiral Scratch
The Fall - Live at the Witch Trials
Television - Adventure
Swell Maps - A Trip to Marineville
The Clash - London Calling

list would be different every time I made it though
No Wire?

My list would be very similar but Wire (Chairs Missing for me but no gripes with someone that prefers Pink Flag) would obviously be in over Swell Maps, because I've never heard of them

Also Marquee Moon>Adventure

I don't know what my last four will be but ya'll need to switch out something on your lists for Richard Hell and the Voidoids.

You're right.

It was late and I wanted to make a list, and didn't check the years. I also left out a lot of bands that I consider "Post Punk" & "Art Rock" and left them off cause of it. I really didn't want to post in the thread, but I thought hey at least you would see those albums. You're totally free to like them or lump them - the choice is yours. I promise myself never to act like Chula Vista shove my favorite four piece Blues Rock UK band down any one's throat, or act like MicShiz'm and shove the worse album I can think of down your throat. Not gonna do it.
