Now leave home ESPECIALLY Rocket to russia were THE Epitome of rockNroll back on track, also was Pleasant dreams a few years later. The Ramones defined punk, & "pop punk" as does brilliant groups like the Queers, Sonic Surf City, the Travoltas etc

Not necessarily the bands that come to mind when talking about Pop Punk. California Sun is one of the best "pop songs that got a Punk makeover." imho William Mysterious seriously lays down some of the best Punk bass playing ever on that album (CStR).

I don't know, I'm bad with genres, all I know is it's fast and catchy rock music (in my mind=pop punk). Maybe it can be both emo and pop punk?
