yes I don't think he's overrated how does that equal him being the best rapper alive?

I don't get the connection

If you say he isn't overrated, then you are essentially saying you agree with all the praise he gets, including articles that claim he is the best rapper alive. If you don't agree that he is the best rapper alive then you must agree he is overrated.

Sure, not all of them are going to be bullseye but they might be close to it and then some will just be completely off and not even hit the target board ie. the line matious chose to pick out of the song when he did have some hot lines in that song.
This has always been my problem with his praise.

People equate the amount of ****ty guest appearances he does and rapping without writing down his lyrics as "putting in work."

Lil Wayne benefits from having a young audience that doesn't want to listen to any subject matter, they just want to be spoon fed puns and egotistical punchlines.

He is a really good rap "rockstar", but he would have to have made more original, more influential music to be worthy of the hype he gets. Not just coining the term "bling bling"

I don't understand the mentality which only seems to occur in rap that if a rapper does enough verses he instantly deserves credit cause he's "put in work". I judge musicians by quality, not quantity.

I can understand that if you want to talk about if he is talented or not but his hype is based purely off of being in your face all the time with guest appearances, mixtapes and his albums that come out.

this isn't even an issue about quality over quantity.

he deserves the hype for that alone always being able to stay relevant even if he's not delivering a perfect line each and every single time.

There are other artists that can do that and don't have as much work available but it's quality.
I would consider those artists more talented.

Alright...so let me try to get this right. He deserves all the hype, which part of is being labeled the best rapper alive, but he isn't actually that great?

I know I'm really playing devils advocate, but being able to stay relevant is not praise worthy enough to me.

He totally missed on that cornball "i am not a human being" excursion. He shouldn't have been able to endure that, and wouldn't without the help of his loyal fans who will look past anything.

He's a pop artist. He gets told what to wear, who to work with, how to sound, how to act on camera, who to give "shout outs" to. When it comes to his actual music he is one of the most imbalanced artists ever.

I'm sorry to say but you are horrible at playing devil's advocate. I have constantly stated in my posts that he's not the best rapper alive even though some of his fans may feel that way. I don't speak for them.

You may not like I am not a human being but it has some great tracks on that album. Of course you aren't going to like that album anyways because 1 you are a lil wayne hater, you just straight up don't like him no matter what he does and 2 you are pretty hung up over how he is perceived as a pop star because of all the praise he gets when you feel he doesn't deserve it.

yes thats why I'm taking the time to argue this with you online. I do still like him, he has some brilliant moments, I'm just not as forgiving of the 75% of the time when his music is recycled uninspired laziness

The problem is, and this articulates what DJ is saying in a different way, Lil' Wayne is overrated by people who have horrible tastes in music, and underrated by people who otherwise have great tastes in music.

Does this make sense?
