Elzhis, maybe it could be because it was recorded more recently and I have listened to it more times, although the more I am listening to Nas the more I am learning the lyrics and enjoying it.

I doubt that many people who were in there teens when Illmatic came out would say they prefer Elmatic. Maybe I'm wrong though.

what are some good songs by this guy? I'm not interested in him just rapping over nas beats and don't feel like digging through mixtapes

It's not Nas beats. They are completely remade and improved upon.

Get his album The Preface. Colours was one of my favourite tracks off there.

Elmatic better than Illmatic

Just, no.

Better beats and better lyricist. Makes no sense to think Illmatic is a better album.

Course it is, there is a reason it is in nearly every Hip-Hop fan's top 5. Some things just shouldn't need explaining. One is a Hip-Hop classic and the other is a very good take on a Hip-Hop classic. I don't even think Elzhi would agree with your statement.

Tracks like Halftime, NY State of Mind, It Ain't Hard to Tell, One Love are better than anything on Elmatic and classic tracks in their own right. The production on Elmatic was refreshing and not as simplistic as Illmatic's, I'll give you that. But that doesn't make it better at all.

I could re-record The Beatles songs with three of my mates with crisper production qualities using the technology available now as opposed to their original recordings and alter the lyrics to make them more relevant to the times and my own circumstance, but that doesn't mean I'm easily better than The Beatles.
