You have to have a ~deep~ connection with them. This reminds me of the thread where we talked about separating the artist from their personal lives. The music from who they are in reality.

She might be racist [sic] but she's got a mean rap style! There are rappers out there that talk smack, Eminem is a good example but it doesn't mean we can't be allowed to enjoy their music.

I'm the same way. I know that it's possible to like someone's work without liking them as a person because there's often so much we don't even dream of, but I still need to feel some kind of connection to the artist. Which I don't here. And worse, if her music was something I could indentify with maybe I'd just latch on to that and give it my own meaning... but I can't do that either in her case.

I can't wait for her CD to drop! I wasn't impressed by Bounce, she can do so much better than that. It was like when Nicki Minaj started doing pop records, it was like WTF?

I usually prefer to know next to nothing about an artist whose music I love, because if I learn something really disappointing about them, it coats their music, and I can't unthink of what was done or said.
