not to mention jay put kanye on the map and thus is partially responsible for his impact as well

edit - also, i like em and i could honestly see why people would say he's better than jay but i honestly disagree. i'm in the minority in this opinion on here, i'm sure. to me, reasonable doubt alone > anything eminem has ever done. either way i don't think kanye should be mentioned in the same sentence as either of them in terms of rap skill. even wayne is miles ahead of kanye imo and he gets hated on relentlessly by internet fans who at the same time give the nod to kanye... i will never understand it

Jay Z is a big star with cross over appeal but he was not the FIRST black rapper to cross over. I would argue rappers like RUN DMC and LL Cool J were among st the first.

Kanye was making beats for Jay way before Kanye was even a solo artist so I would argue that Kanye put Jay on the map because that is the only great thing about Jay'z songs.

it sounds like you're saying "i don't think he's that great therefore he hasn't made an impact." honestly, it's not about how much you like his music. i don't care for ll cool j's music but i will easily recognize the impact he made. and i would say you're wrong when you say he's been making the same music since the 90's... he raps about a lot of the same content but that's about it.

i didn't say his impact was being the first black rapper with cross over appeal. ll cool j and run dmc don't even make remotely the same kind of music that jay-z does imo.

jay-z had a name before kanye produced anything for him. kanye became known primarily because of his production on later jay-z albums. and then jay used his star appeal to help market kanye. so yea... gonna have to disagree with you there.
